Lin will always be under the microscope, other players get more of a pass. Mchale was never high on Lin, but isn't scared to lean on Lin when hes playing hot. This season will be an indicator whether he can sustain a high level of play. Last night was a back-to-back for Lin and I'm sure hes still tired from those breakout games. Not to mention Carlisle clearly game planned for Lin, he looked lost. We'll see as the season progresses how he handles it.
Lin should get more minutes because he's shown borderline all-star potential. Until Bev can show he has the same ceiling, it is a very valid argument to say that Lin should get minutes irrespective of how he is playing in a single instance. If we are to compete with the Pacers/Heat/Thunder/Clippers of the world, we simply cannot churn out a team where Harden is the only person who can create his own shot.
I think it's a bad situation for both Lin and McHale. With two max players, McHale is pretty much pressured to win now. Whether right or wrong he's trying his best (though looks crappy) to win games. Lin isn't saying and not going to say much, but I bet when his career is over I'll be the first in line to buy his book to read all about it.
you guys are kidding right, Lin vs Bev debate isn't even a debate anymore because Bev isn't even in Lin's galaxy, present or future...lof aren't even mad at bev cuz he's a good guy that plays hard...our issue is with Mchale and his blatant disrespect for Lin given his allstar calibre play this year (and 2nd half of last yr)...if you want to move forward with Bev as your pg of the future, that's fine, just make that clear to Lin and let him become the allstar we all know he can be somewhere else
26 pages are you kidding me? Lin had a bad game last night Mchale sat him down. OMG. Jeez. Not a big deal. He benched Asik for being crap. He benched Harden for playing like crap in another game. This cult like treatment of Lin is ridiculous. Mchale has made horrendous coaching decisions this year but I am not going to crucify him for doing the right thing by sitting Lin down. He just wasn't able to penetrate into that soft and hard zone that Carlisle was throwing at him last night.
I am not sure if you guys have been watching the game or anything. The problem isn't Beverly and Lin, its Lin and Harden. The rockets just doesn't play well when both of them are on the floor.
I noticed that too, I think Lin dropped 20 on the mavs last game, they trapped him hard off every PnR, i guess that's what championship coaches like rick carlisle do
yeah, this is exactly what Mchale is doing. But it's weird and r****ded, and so we're having this thread. lin is the guy who had been at all-star level (would easily be voted in imo with those shooting %s on 18 ppg considering last years vote). beverley is a hard working dude who won mchale's heart...except flat out isn't as good right now. the only situation that seems remotely similar to this to me is when ray allen was gonna get benched for avery bradley...and we know how that's turning out.
And if we are benching based off performance, anyone want to tell me what opposing teams SG's have done against the Rockets this year?
McHale is closer to a LOH than a LOF. He's definitely better than he gives him credit for, but with that said he is the coach of the team so it's his call.
Comparing Harden to Ginobili is an insult to him as well. Houston tries to build a champion team around two overrated players and a stupid coach.
Please find me a single basketball mind(scout, front office person, coach, that believe this. So you need an allstar to replace Lin's production last night? LOF in a nutshell, ladies and gentlemen! I believe he was superior last night.
Lin played pretty bad last game so I can see him getting limited minutes. Bev's minutes were limited this past stretch of games too. But I can also totally see Lin getting eventually marginalized to the end of the bench. I don't understand McHale's thought process sometimes. Not just with Lin but Asik too (last year). If Bev was actually a quality starting point guard, then I wouldn't question McHale so much. But given McHale's propensity to sit Lin for Toney Douglas (?!?!) last year, Bev's not-so-stellar play, and the handling of Asik last year - I really do sort of wonder sometimes. Just the perceived favoring of Toney Douglas over Lin sort of puts a question mark over McHale's handling of the situation. But regardless - no one should get their panties in a bunch ... yet. This thread was pointless and I should not have responded. OP should have waited at least a few games of Bev sucking, and Lin not playing until posting this.
That's a shame. You would think more long time Rocket fans would be pissed when the coach won't play the most consistent player of the year so far. Mchale is a dumbass.
When was the last time a player in the history of clutchfans that fans are upset a player that got 1 point on 0-5 shooting with a -10 in 17 minutes "didn't play more?" Any time, any player.
