Suppose for a moment that Howard's backup is not a defenseless DMo or a sulking Asik, but rather Deke in his first couple of years in Houston. Or that Harden's backup is Tony Allen instead of Garcia. Then yes, McHale should go to them when their starters are playing like crap. Lin was getting playing time regardless of his play when Beverley's out. Why? Because Aaron Brooks, and it pains me deeply to say this, is horrible. You know who else is horrible so far? Garcia, Harden's backup. You know who else is horrible right now? Asik, because he's being a emo little girl. You know who's a solid player? Beverley. If Harden or Howard had players near their own level of play, they'd be benched when they suck too.
Given how utterly crappy played in the Dallas game, McHate couldn't possibly give any reason to play Lin.
You moron. Ive been on clutchfans since you were a seed in your daddys sack. That is since 97 or 98. Im a real Rockets fan...unlike you and your hidden agenda "fans" like you.
Lin can come off the bench, and I have no problem with that. He just needs consistent time to play through his mistakes. Giving the 35 minutes one night and 17 the next is no way to develop a young player. What I'm advocating for is choosing a player and letting him play. If McHale and the Rockets brass believe that Bev is the future, then let him play and stop jerking everybody around. It is just my personal opinion that Jeremy Lin is the more talented guard and can develop into a far better player should he be given the opportunity. With that said, I believe that he should be given more freedom to make mistakes even if may cost us a win or two here and there.
Benching based on lack of effort is a legit coaching tactic. Benching your 2nd best playmaker due to a cold streak is stupid.
Come on meh, you can't tell me that you think Beverley is a better player than Lin and should be the starting point guard, all six man **** aside.
This thread sucks bad, but at least I saw "McHate" in it. LOL! I got some more for the creatively challenged Beliebers: Kevin McGenocide Kevin McIncest Kevin McTreason Kevin McReactorcoremeltdown Kevin McPlague Kevin McSatan Kevin McSpeciesextinction Kevin McBabystabber Kevin McFoodwar Kevin McSolarimplosion Kevin McMeanietimesamillion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is an interesting comment. Bev is younger. The question is who has the higher ceiling. McHale's eye test probably tells him that Bev is way more athletic, but the reality (and the speed sensors) tell a different story. Bev also has more international bball experience, plus he played at a top tier college program, which I would argue is more valuable NBA-wise than Lin's years playing off-guard (not even PG) at Harvard. My opinion is that Lin is the better player and has a much higher ceiling, but McHale might think differently. He would not be the only one, I might add. Lin continues to get underestimated by many.
I knew this would happen as soon as Lin had a bad game. LOH's are so predictable. But when Bev has played like crap (plenty of times this season) they're quick to say he had an off game or that he was still injured (which he wasn't). If you're a Rockets fan give all of the players the same respect.
What it comes down to is that when Lin is playing better than Beverley, Lin should play more minutes and when Beverley is playing better than Lin, Lin should get more minutes. Basically, Lin should get more time irrespective of the reality on the floor. It's all crystal clear now. LOL
micheal Why do coach treat their second playmaker like this?only happen in rocket,it s amazing.I think the reason why was after beats celtics. Coach think he dont need lin and still can win the game.so he bench lin for no reason and hard to explain.lin should protect his body and play safely.this team just dont trust you at all.no need to play hard for this team.fighting for yourself carrer.
You don't actually think Bev is the superior pg vs Lin right?? I actually have no prob with Bev starting over Lin cause I see why they're doing it....There's just not enough possession during the 1qrt to accommodate Harden/Howard/Parson/Lin. It makes sense to spread it out so Lin becomes the sg when Harden is off...and no that wouldn't go against Bev cause technically he's the inferior starter....if they go on the record and call out Bev as 2nd choice on the team then yea I would totally say it goes against him. For me personally if Lin gets traded then it all makes sense but if he's staying then McHale is horrible at developing his players.
game 1 vs bobcats, lin comes in at 6:01, score is 9-8 rockets game 6 vs lakers, lin comes in at 6:24, 13-6 lakers game 7 vs clips, lin comes in at 5:13, 18-8 clips game 8 vs raptors, lin comes in at 4:52, 15-13 raptors game 10 vs knicks, lin comes in at 5:33, 11-9 knicks game 11 vs nuggets, lin comes in at 4:50, 23-12 rockets game 12 vs celts, lin comes in at 5:20, 23-5 rockets game 13 vs mavs, lin comes in at 3:55, 27-21 rockets it was VERY noticeable how late lin (and casspi) were subbed in this game. also of note, casspi entered the 3rd quarter at 5:28. lin? 3:35.... something was definitely different this game.....
These talks will soon end. Lin and Asik will be traded by December. If anything, the only problem is Les who can be adamant when it comes to Lin. For McHale and Morey, it's already an accepted fact. When and if Lin's gone, Harden, Parsons, Beverly and Howard will be under the microscope each and every game.
