woah... very interesting. If the price is right, you'd have to think it would be huge for the Rockets to own their own network. The Astros would hate this, but for the Rockets.... woah... that would be incredible.
hopefully we won't have to watch the Astros games on that channel. They can shop elsewhere and we can have truly great Rockets coverage
If the Astros get the right price, they'd love it. They'd love to be done with CSN. Both the Astros and Comcast reps testified at the hearing that the station wasn't viable without the Astros...that there's simply not enough programming just around an NBA team given the costs of running this network. I speculated in the thread in the Astros forum that MAYBE Les has buying an NHL team in mind and using that to supplement programming. I have no idea if that's happening...just a wild guess.
Still have to negotiate with the carriers. But since NBA teams share local media revenue more extensively than MLB teams do, that component isn't as important to Les, presumably, as it is to the Astros. They can afford to take a lower price and still do very well.
Would this hand the digital rights over to the Rockets? Direct marketing of their live game streams through Rockets.com?
Leslie has no interest in the NHL. The plan is to replace all Astros content with additonal Jeremy Lin programming.
Assume Les purchases an NHL team, 1) what team would be buy, 2) it's a winter sport, what the hell will you do in the summer time? You have the Dynamo, and then after that, I don't know. I can only watch so many red bull skateboarding shows in the summer time.
