Yes... I forgot to add, "don't be an idiot and throw it to the hot read receiver if he's double covered or if there's a defender in the flat". On most of those blitz packages Case is seeing, the extra defender that is making these picks is not going to be there.
Those aren't blitzes, though. The Niners are rushing 4; the Rams 3. The Titans are in a nickel with five DBs and a LB (it's 3rd and 21) and rushing their typical five (they run a 3-4, IIRC) - the Texans keep Foster in the backfield and have the rush contained. Frankly. it looks more like a miscommunication between Schaub and Hopkins.
Not necessarily blitzes, but a huge weapon against aggressive defenses are pump fakes. Get guys off balance, then burn them. Would also make the 4 yard attempts more effective because DBs wouldn't overplay. Pump fakes. Gary is supposed to be a QB coach, right?... smh
Yeah, this continually baffles me. I'm in constant fear (relative term) of the opposing teams running a screen play knowing full well we can't stop it, and somehow, our screen plays never seem to go anywhere!
One Chronicle poster wrote that the Texans routinely send the tight end into a long pattern instead of using him for pass protection which is a huge coaching mistake. What do you think?
The Texans TE's arent really good in pass protection schemes...that seems to be Kubiak's staple...Pass catching TEs that are average blockers...If the Texans do use the TE as a pass threat, the Texans have to use the RBs to cut and pick up the short blitz on the edge..The issue is that more pressure is getting through the middle...often unblocked... This would only imply that OLinemen are confused at the LOS on who's responsibility is whose...
How about Case know his hot route reads and get rid of the ball. It's there Case is just not doing it.

Lance Z sounds smarter on youtube than he does on the radio. That being said, its a pretty good example of the types of reads that Keenum could be missing (even though the example came from his first game). If he's continued to make the same mistake 4 games in a row... rookie, or no rookie... something has to give. One thing is certain... teams will continue to blitz him regularly until he proves he's able to handle/exploit it/not run 20 yards backwards.
There may not be a hot route -- the hot route requires receiver participation, and if he's not aware of the blitz, then you have no hot route.
O.K., if this is all on Keenum, and the coaches can't help (I still think they can), then his career as an NFL starter is going to be a short one. It could end this Sunday.
I am pretty certain Kubiac would like to win one of those last games. His job is on the line here. Keenum was wildly successful in UofH. UofH had always have trouble recruit those big lines men. But Keenum never have trouble with blitz even with sub-standard OL. Maybe revert back to shot guns formation. It gave a couple of more seconds for Keenum to see what is going on. He may have a hard time getting snap under center. Kubiac may want to call Keven Sumlin on what is Keenum's habit and tendencies. I think Keenum has great potential. But Houstonians are angry. Right now, people in Houston are angry at Matt and the coach. But if Keenum doesn't show improvement against blitz in the next couple of games, I am afraid Houstonians will turn against him. At UofH, vast majority of its pass are short 3 to 5 yards pass. To get 1st downs, it requires the ball hits the receiver at the right place at the right time and let the receiver making plays to get additional yards. A lot of bubble screen and a lot of short crossing routes, etc. In addition, UH coaches insists on a pass/run ration of 1 to 1. UH uses no huddle and fast tempo. Thus the nickname "fast break on grass". Blitz is not effective against this type of offense because the ball is out of quarterback's hand very fast by design. In addition, no huddle doesn't allow defense to substitute blitzing personnels. It is also the reason why Keenum had a reputation of being a system quarterback (because UH uses a lot of short dump off passes as its main staple). Keenum is a heck of a quarterback. I think he could be our new foundation quarterback for the next 10 years. But he may never developed the skill to read blitz because the nature of UH offense. Kubiac shall stop insisting on forcing Keenum to conform to his system. He shall adds UH's system to fit Keenum, at least for the next two years, until Keenum develops his skill set (that includes recognize many forms of blitz).
If there is no hot route then Case is not reading the defense well in presnap. I've seen it the past few weeks him not seeing the quick open receiver. Either Case isn't reading the the blitz right, not knowing the blocking package could be an issue because the guy who's getting to him is the free rusher which means he doesn't know the guy he's resposible for in blitz coverage or he's because trigger shy in some of them because he sees the guy open but isn't releasing the ball fast enough to hit the receiver.
Its not a case problem, its a kubiak problem. The fact that kubiak still has a job is pathetic. I dont know who i despise more at this point, mcnair or jones!
