We have more than enough talent to blow out everyone we have played. The Rockets have been flatout embarrassing teams for sizeable portions of most of the games this season. TJ is improving massively. We don't need Melo or his 40 shots a game and blame everyone else attitude. An overpaid stretch 4 is not the answer we need. A lockdown wing would be great, but far from something that is holding this team back from a terrific record and success. Clearly, the whole team needs to play better defense.
All these things are small in comparison to the #1 #2 and #3 things this Rockets team needs which is a coach that doesn't have a coaching style that resembles Mack Brown's.
I know I will probably be crucified for that little shot at the Longhorns' clueless and directionless leader, but its true. I don't want McHale to ****in clap it out and tell everybody to play solid for the last 2 minutes of the quarter as they go out there and let Dallas(a collection of journeymen mercs who aren't good enough to be wanted by contenders and aren't quite old enough to retire, and like Mark Cuban's $ too much to stop torturing the world with their barely-NBA level athleticism) basically just steal this game away cuz our coach cant make an adjustment to save his life.
I want a coach that will sit Lin for the rest of the game when he is obviously way off the mark, as he was tonight. I want a coach that will make the ref cry because of the things he says about his wh*re of a mother when he makes a terrible call and AGAIN gives Dallas a handout of points they neither worked for nor deserved.
I want a coach that can make adjustments on the fly when the counterpunch comes from the OTHER NBA TEAM on the floor that the Rockets are playing. All teams go on runs, but it seems the Rockets have a coach that cannot respond to the other team's changes in scheme, playing style, pace and especially the other coaches countermoves.
This Rockets team is already frighteningly good and can tear it up this season. But we need a coach who knows his ass from a hole in the ground and someone who can react and respond to the flow of the game, repeatedly. (&#&&^$^%#&@* Damn this game tonight pissed me off.

i remember saying rockets need a above average wing defender. was hoping if morey didnt feel the need to get one, that would be in the rotation, then our team defense would make up for the lack of a lockdown defender.

good thing the season just started. how many times have i said that, or its the beginning of the season? too many times

We need someone who will change the culture of this team's defense.

no elite wing defender on this planet can guard 2 guys at the same time. the emergency is get a tough coach to make Harden right, and if failed then rox need to shake off Haren's big long contract, if Daryl has the balls he can even do it now. If he can be Harden then fine but I dont see he can be or willing to be.

Ok, so you get a wing defender. So what is the plan then? Once you take the lead you bench Harden in favor of this wing defender? Point is, we will not get anyone good enough to take many minutes from Harden or Parsons. They will play most of the game and it comes down to them improving.

I say we need a coach that will hold people accountable for not giving any effort. After the nth office chair impersonation from Harden tonight, he should have been benched until the end of the quarter for Ronnie Brewer in street clothes.

Maybe Morey can pull some magic and find a stopper in Russia somewhere.

Throw in MCW while we are at it. No way Asik nets both of those guys.

Deng would likely start with Parsons would likely get 30 minutes+ backing up Deng and playing small ball 4.

But really I'm more concerned with what kind of cheap defensive wins that are available via trade. Problem is, i don't know any of the good top great defenders outs ide of aminu, ariza, lee, allen, thabo, deng, butler, kawhi. I'm interested in defensive players i might not know about.

You don't bench harden. You simply put (wing defender) in and move Parsons to the stretch 4.

With a lineup of beverley/harden/(wing defender)/Parsons/Dwight you have a good defensive unit and enough to atleast slow down the opposition. Along with still keeping a decent offensive game on the floor.

They definitely need a defensive stopper. I think Avery Bradley would be perfect, if the Rockets could trade Asik for him and get a good backup C from a 3rd team, I would be happy. Deng would be even better, but I don't see the Bulls trading him.

a trade i have been really thinking of

Ok so shoot me if you dont like it buttttt

What if we did a trade of Asik for Iman Shumpert and Baragni

I am not sure if Asik is okay going there...maybe he could take the starting gig with chandler injured is the only question.

But if we could get Shumpert I think he could be that 2/3 defender we desperately need plus can play offense.

Baragni would be perfect he could be our stretch 4 and back up 5.

You would have both coming off the bench with lin and then jones starting at the 4.

I am starting to warm to the idea of Luol Deng on the Rockets. There would have to be various players involved, Asik as the centerpiece, and I guess Chicago would have a decision on their hands with Joakim Noah; why would Chicago trade for the same problem we'd be getting rid of ourselves?

But watching this team's "defense" has been paaaaaaaaaaainful, painful.

    What's a "Baragni"?

if Asik to NYK doesnt work... We could do a 3 way with another team like the celts.

Where they send a big body and Rondo to the Knicks...knicks give us shumpert and baragni and rondo goes to NYK

In this scenario we would undoubtedly have to add a piece like dmo or bev or at least a draft pick

i would like to have shump but i feel he is drastically overrated. his defense thus far this year has been average to above average. last nights foul on george was horrible and cost them the game. im not buying into bargnani quite yet.

as for deng i have been slowing warming up to it more and more also. if we could send asik and dmo or jones to a third party and in return receive deng and gibson. that would help our defense tremendously. a lineup of bev/harden/deng/parsons/dwight is very well balanced.

true I like this, the trade below is one I cam up with earlier If you still want to have asik + cap room to make a bigger trade. but woud love love to have Barangi as a 4-5 that can strech the floor and his defense has looked good on howard and hibbert last night.

    Rockets in

    Shumpert
    $1,700,000 2013-2014
    $2,600,000 2014-2015

    Udrih
    $1,270,000 2013-2014 (vet min)

    Knicks in

    Lin
    $8,300,000 2013-2014
    $8,300,000 2014-2015

    Brewer
    $1,270,000 2013-2014 (vet min)

    Rockets do this
Shumpert - to get a perimeter defender who has shown he can guard 1-3 rose, paul george, lebron, wade. Unlike brewer he is young, athletic and can give you offense also when he is on the floor. Knicks have said he is on the trade block. He can give parsons, harden or bev rest. He is a upgrdae over bev because of he is bigger and taller and can knock down the 3 at the same rate but can get to the rim and finish more with a dunk. He is also on a cheap contract gives you more room if you want to trade asik for someone one worth more than his $8,300,000 in a seperate deal.. Dont have to settle for the players we have been talking about here.

udrih- a reliable backup point guard, not as much offense as lin but he is a true PG that can shoot and plays smart does not turn the ball over VET.

    Knicks do this
Lin -is missed in NY will start there and they are having problems with feltons play and health, and need some spark or hope for that team. Knicks will take him back happily. truth is if Bev is having a good game lin will only play the same amount of mins he played last night.

Brewer- can help them on D their coach would actually give him some mins when they need someone to guard certain players unlike what mchale does here. No reason to have him on the rockets roster for defense if mchale will not use him because of his offense.

    What you think ?

did you watch whole game or just the end ? Shump had paul not wanting to shoot at all the first the quarter he had 0 points. He got hot on smith most of the game. And i would take a player putting his hand up glued to his player with a risk of foul vs our players ball watching leaving room for them to get the perfect look.

To be honest i only watched the end of the knicks game, but I've caught a little bit of done knicks games and he hadn't really stood out this year defensively. I could be wrong though and maybe I'm not watching enough games.

But his hype is unreal. He isn't a Allen/iggy/George level defender. But he is being portrayed as one. I tend to feel because of this hype he would cost more than I'm willing to part with just to acquire a wing defending role player. Because that is all he would be with us.

Id much rather try and get a luc mbah/aminu type defender. I don't know many of the younger talented defenders though that could be had.

Id love to acquire allen somehow from Memphis, our thabo from okc.

yes i agree butler would be a good look also. Morey did great by bringing in brewer he saw the defense need this summer, but his offense is a risk having him on the floor guess thats why mchale wont play him. Either way butler and shump or cheap so its not a big issue of having them on the payroll.
