The most worrisome thing about this to me is that it never seemed like Wade wanted Ed Reed. You never heard him say much about the guy during recruitment, and barely anything after he was signed. It seems as if Uncle Bob and Rick just dropped this dude in Wade's lap and said "here's your mental toughness (that you never said you needed), now go win." If your GM, owner, and coaches are so obviously not on the same page, that's a recipe for failure.
Great post. No question about it. The problems with this organization seem to be with respect to who is deciding what. And those who cover the organization seem to have no clue with respect to who has the real decision making power. It leads to all sorts of uncertainty when you fall short of your goals.
Playoff game? How about since Cushing went down. I know Cush is an amazing linebacker but man our d went downhill in a hurry once he got hurt last season. What made me lose faith in Wade was the playoff game against NE though. He made 0 adjustments and we got embarrassed by NE again. I believe some of what Ed is saying is cause he is bitter but there is some truth.
Yea your right, he just to stubborn... He seems to always play man to man- even when its not working.. Patriots Exposed wade phillips twice last year and he didnt mind to change the defense.. Please bring in Gruden for HC and Lovie Smith for DC (not sure who for Offensive Coordinator...) As long as it is not Kubiak or dennison... Maybe Seahawks OC- not sure who it is?
Yep. I remember Wade and others talking about how he wanted safeties that mirror each other and can play both sides (free and strong) when he first got here. GQ and Manning were pretty similar from a skills standpoint. Reed, on the other hand, is a pure free safety and is especially not suited to play in the box or blitz at this point in his career.
That too. But we brought him in thinking he could still cover. Well, at least Bob and Rick did. Also, re: Wade... I am confident saying that his lack of success is due to lack of pass rush. Brooks Reed is garbage. Barwin was garbage last year. Wade needs very good OLBs for his system to flourish.
Our d completely changes with Cushing, plus we don't have the defensive backfield talent or outside pressure to go Man like we do.
Honestly, he's got a lot of valid points. So while it might seem like its a blame game that Reed is playing. All points he stated are very valid.
I wouldn't say "completely". Last year? Yes. This year? While it hurt, we were having issues before Cush got injured. His absence isn't the reason the defense is sucking. That lines up with what Reed said. Wade's defense isn't a fit for the CB's we have. They're not the kind of corners you can just leave in man coverage every play with an inconsistent pass rush. Wade's D probably isn't a good fit for Mercilus or Brooks Reed or really any defensive end we've tried to convert to linebacker either.
They really aren't though. He was in position a ton of times, and he took himself out of position and couldn't recover. He was horrible and it showed on the field.

The Texans defensive coaching staff may be mundane, predictable, and even mediocre...but they were right about Ed Reed. He never should have been on the team.
Ed reed wants to play two more seasons ...despite his teams losing every game he has been active this year. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000293056/article/ed-reed-wants-to-play-two-more-seasons-in-nfl
