At 21 you can probably relax with that concern. Let him play 15+ minutes for a couple of weeks and make that assessment again.
I think Jones is the future for this team at the moment, and his continued growth will be great for the future.
I've liked Jones since last year and thought he was a solid contributor. Not sure why he didn't get more playing time earlier unless McHale wanted more perimeter scoring.
I remember when we drafted TJones, a lot of folks were down on the pick. I stuck my neck out and said it was a great pick, because at 6'10, 250, and being very sound defensively, Jones will definitely fit in the league. It's good to finally be right about something....
lol people patting themselves on the back for telling us T. Jones would be great after his career performance. You win the internet.
So far he has played well when given the playing time. With young players like this it is matter of consistency not just a game or two where he plays well then drops off.
Props to TJ. In college, at UK, he was always feeling sorry for himself. He had a stretch starting with the defeat at IU where he absolutely just laid down and had a pity party. Cal benched him (officially, he was hurt) but we all knew what he was being benched for. Glad to see he's grown up. I didn't have high hopes for him. He had all the tools, the athleticism, the range, the body, but mentally he just wasn't there. Its been a long time coming. If he can match his head with his heart, play ball, and just let the game come to him, he's going to be a force. HE CAN BE THE 4 WE NEED IF HE PUTS HIS MIND TO IT.
See a lot of things to like on this "career" game... 1. crashes the boards, gets garbage buckets (averaging 3 Off RPG) 2. puts the ball on the floor, penetrates, creates for himself 3. runs the floor like a deer, a barreling big man, finisher on the break 4. shooting range, defenders will respect, giving him space to drive and penetrate against allow footed tall defenders 5. "verticality" and length to his game, he's long, with just raising his arms = he can get blocks, gets boards, gets to dunk a lot (the dunk is the highest percentage shot ) 6. pretty good handles for a big man yes, he deserves to get the most minutes at PF
I like his defense the most he has been solid there, big test tonight against the dueschten flopinski. DD
defense is the most I am worry about. I like to see our defense can move up at least one level to good. now we are just average.
