I have an interview coming up for the UT Houston PT MBA program in Houston. Anyone here been in the program or had an interview for it? Do they ask anything different than your normal interview questions (why mba, why ut, strengths, weaknesses, leadership exp, etc etc)?

Nope...it's a pretty standard interview. A couple of resume questions and some behavioral stuff. I found them to be somewhat unprepared for the interview actually. It seemed like he had picked up my resume for the first time when I walked in the interview. I'm an admissions counselor for Rice MBA so I interview prospective professional MBA candidates. I do a thorough review of their resume and have my questions ready to go beforehand. Anyway, who is your interviewer?

No idea who the interviewer is yet. I read online that it is a 'blind' (or something) interview where the interviewer hasn't read your letters of rec, essays, etc. Not sure why they do it that way.

I'll be applying for Rice by the end of the month (full time program). Out of all the schools in Houston, Rice is my first choice.

I just had an interview via Skype with Oxford. It went alright. My first MBA interview and while I was prepared for the typical questions, I was a little rusty. But, I should be ready by the time I interview with Rice, Cambridge, Carnegie Mellon and Chicago.

Don't mean to hijack your thread Big Mak, but I wanna pursue a MBA also and was wondering is the GMAT scores the most crucial part for admissions? Or is it basically everything is taken into account the same.

It's part. From my understanding, everything is weighed equally - GMAT, GPA, work experience, essays, letters. However, parts like GPA (some schools are easier than others), work exp, etc are all very subjective... The GMAT is the same for everyone, so I feel, and I may be wrong, that a good GMAT score is very important to get noticed. I got above a 700, so a lot of schools waived the application fee. Just my 2 cents.

How many years of experience do you have for the PT program? I'm also considering one, either Rice or UT. U of H is much much cheaper but I'm not sure if it carries much value around.

They are just money making programs for university. They will pretty much just let anyone in.

Be sure to let the interviewer know you'll rep the 3rd Ward for life.

I think the GMAT score probably won't get you in, but if you don't do well it will keep you out.

Rice does blind interviews as well. I only see the resume when I do an interview. UT must have changed their interview process because I was interviewed by the Associate Director of Admissions and he had all of my application materials in front of him.

An Cambridge, Carnegie Mellon or Chicago MBA is worthwhile, but don't go for an Rice or UT-Houston MBA. Those are worthless these days. Unless you are working in government and having an MBA is a prerequisite for a job promotion. With a 700 GMAT you shouldn't even be considering the latter two.
