Cap hold eliminated as soon as he inks the minimum wage deal.

It would be like what McHale did with Joe Smith, except we don't put anything on paper.

Parsons is ridiculously overrated here. Anything more than 7-8M you let him go. We don't need scoring we need defensive and he is no better than Harden at defense. Pretty frustrating that his defense declines every year

Parsons was never the 2nd best player last season (Asik is a lot better). I'm not even sure he's the 3rd best if Morey is to be believed that Lin generates the 3rd most win on the team despite him playing less minutes than Parsons.

I say Parson will get $8/year. Why? Because that's how much Asik and Lin are getting and his contributions to the team is right around that ball park.

I think people are severely overrating the "replacability" of Chandler Parsons. Just take a look around the league and see who's playing SF. The wing position currently has basically no depth. It's the shallowest position in the NBA due to the trend in small ball and many natural SFs now playing stretch 4(Lebron, Melo, etc.)

Besides, no one besides Les should care about Parsons' salary anyway, assuming we're over the cap when we sign him to his big deal. The only difference is how much luxury tax Les needs to pay.

That would be the most blatant non-written wink wink deal in the history of basketball. :)

Parsons market value is probably around $8M. The reality is if a team with a roster full of $8M Parsons's, it is doomed for mediocrity and ends up around a 41-41 record. Any team wants win a championship should avoid signing a player with limited upside at his market value. (note: limited upside based on his marginal progress since rookie year)

Ideally you want every player plays above his contract value. That's what Riley is doing with Heat, and that's what Morey is and should be doing; acquiring undervalued players.

We are in desperate need of a perimeter lock down defender more than a steady scorer. Danny Green, Sefolosha, and T Allen are all capable knocking down 3's and lock down opposition best scorer (Melo who burned up every time we played Knicks), and they all make a lot less than $8M/year. This is the direction we should go if the price for Parsons costs more than $6M/year.

the solution should be really easy for Morey. Trade Asik for a couple picks next year if he is still here, and then sign Parsons for 8-10m/yr for 4 years and then go with a core of Lin, Harden, Parsons, Jones and Howard for the next three to five years while filling out the rest of the team with one year deals.

Parsons is worth whatever Batum or Prince received for their first big contracts. Very similar players.

They're both better defenders than Parsons.

I wouldn't necessarily call Melo and LeBron stretch 4's... They're playing the 4 position out of necessity. And LeBron is a point forward. It's plenty of players that can be inserted into Parsons position and probably give the same or better production. Of course Parsons has the much cheaper contract though but small forwards (or players that can be inserted into that position) are easy to find. Especially since he's not playing defense. He gives up just as much as he scores.

And Olajuwon retired in Canada... So I'll believe Alexander will pay over that cap when I see it....

Parsons for 7-8 million a year seems very fair, anything over 9 mill is over paying IMO. If he's going to request a big contract we should probably trade him this deadline and get some value for him.

Parsons is a good player, but not great. He can be replaced through the draft, or FA for cheap. With our team having 2 all-stars, Lin as a good third option, and great role players, all of Parsons skills and talents just aren't that important or necessary for this team to win. At least not 9 million + necessary. IMO

A cheap 3 and D player at the 3 could do almost as good of a job helping this team as Parsons does. Even garcia isn't a bad replacement for now.

Lebron plays PF and is the interior help defender. If you watched any Miami games this is blatantly obvious. And ask any Knicks fan whether Melo is better at the 4 or the 3.

    Care to list a few?

They were both lesser players on offense.

That's your plan? That roster and some one year deals? That's what you want to go with for 4 years? That's not a championship team. That's probably not even a WCF team.

You're wasting Dwight's window with that team. We are in win now mode. Trading Asik for some protected picks will just get us more mediocre players to develop in the d-league.

Good Job meh.... But then you said Boozer.. ok ok.

Boozer got paid before the new CBA,,, Asik and Lin got paid after the new CBA.

I'm not hating on any one here... and not you at all meh.. just saying Boozer is not a real EX as far a Parsons goes. Dude will get paid as a Rocket or another Nba player.

I think Morey and the crew see it as let Parsons hit the market and we can play or let him go.. We still have 3 euro players in our back pocket and a trade could happen to get 2 more on a match and trade for Parsons... I say roll the dice baby Houston needs a new pair of shoes (Back to Back trophies) With or without Parsons.
