Unless they are referring to another quote, my memory is of McHale saying something along the lines of Bev doesn't make many mistakes, but the question was specifically about defense.

Thanks for sharing. Especially agree that Jeremy has turned things around by his own performance. He earned his time on court.

excerpt from Jeff Yang's Wall Street Journal article, http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2013/11/15/linsanity-redux-how-much-does-new-york-miss-jeremy-lin/

People familiar with the matter say that despite Lin’s public declarations of support for the move — being part of the second team meant he had more opportunities to score and make plays without metaphorically colliding with Harden and new superstar center Dwight Howard — he was hurt by the decision, particularly since he’d spent the summer working on the two aspects of his game that had been repeatedly challenged by fans and the media: His defense and his outside shooting. “Jeremy has one of the most rigorous offseason workouts ever,” says someone who should know — Evan Jackson Leong, director of the documentary “Linsanity”

It is very clear that Lin off the bench is working well for both the team and for Jeremy. But these quotes indicate it is not about the team, its about what Jeremy "deserves".

    Very troubling.

Yes, Jeremy earned his time on court this season. AND he did not lose his starting position.

I realize this is the official "let them argue here" thread, but good grief.

Doesn't really matter if he starts or not, if he's getting the minutes + his productive then bench or starter it doesnt really matter. The move allows Mchale to always have Harden or Lin on the court, that is the idea of it.

These quotes from anonymous people? That sound like they came from before the season started?

Because no one has ever felt unhappy about being bumped to the bench, no doubt.

Omer Asik does. And he's whining. And guess what? Rockets cares deeply cause now their hands are forced. Every other thread is about this starting debacle, so yeah, a lot of people care.

I don't care if Lin starts or comes off the bench as long as he gets the opportunity to help the team like he can.

For you to sit there and say Lin is selfish for wanting to start is just INSANE. Who doesn't want to start? Lowry? Dragic? This is clearly a new phenomenon, right?

Any good player worth their salt is going to have an ego. There's no room here for your hidden agenda.

yup! actually his assists are down abit but thats because he's focused on scoring which is fine. Ironically, Lin is doing what Harden did for OKC 2 years when he won 6th man of the year.

All we can infer is that he would rather start than come off the bench - like every player in the NBA.

I am sure if he said we wanted to come off the bench, we would all be whining about he is "meek".

Also - I would attribute Lin's improved skills to hard work more so then getting benched.

Well being who and what Lin is, maybe some think that he should "meekly" accept the benching.

huh? Can you please reread the articles?

Also, the Rockets won games with Jeremy starting this year. They might have won more games with him starting ALL of them.

It would be selfish if he thought the team would be better if he came off the bench but yet still want to start, which is likely not what he thinks. He's playing very well this season but I believe that has little to do with coming off the bench. He still plays the majority of his minutes with Harden, so that argument isn't strong. Instead of pointing to coming off the bench as the reason for his level of play, why not acknowledge the work he put into his game in the offseason?

I find your illogical thinking very troubling.

I wish people would stop quoting that person as it defeats the purpose of the ignore function.

All I care about is who closes. And Lin does and should. By a Mile right now.

Yes it's very troubling for a young player wanting to stride for a better career instead of settle for minimal role. That's why I was so disappointed that Harden decided to come here and start instead of staying in OKC as the 6th man.
