Is this a viable solution? Is it a negotiating tactic? It could be both or neither.

I'm wondering how this could be much different than an alacarte TV model that has been turned down.

In perhaps a worst-case scenario where some deal to restructure Comcast SportsNet Houston is not reached, the Astros are prepared to investigate whether an alternate means of broadcasting games is viable.

“Certainly, we hope it’s resolved in some favorable manner to all the parties,” Crane said. “We want to get that done. We’ve gone out and said that we would be hopeful that we’d be able to come with some other type of streaming, or some other mechanism, where the fans could see the game. Once we get past this stage, if we don’t get something resolved, then we’ll be working on that. We haven’t really put a plan together on that. We’ve got until April 1 to do it. But I want the fans to see the games, that’s clear.

“There’s really three options at this point: we come with a solution; the judge dismisses the case, gives us our rights fees back; it gets pitched into bankruptcy court and someone else will have to settle it out. But the bottom line is, there haven’t been enough subscribers from the other networks to sustain the business.”

Crane also explained that landing a workable TV deal could lead to a higher payroll.

Since I cut the budget and got rid of cable I'm all about streaming. If they could come up with a reasonably priced streaming package I would be all for it. Free streaming would be better.

Not to hijack the thread but since the Comcast thread has been closed. How long term of deal were the Astros trying to get?

Who knows the future. Not the same as Netflix. The value is in live broadcasting

I stream the NFL and enjoy it very much. Of course, it's been a long time since I lived in good ol' H-town.

Having an app that would allow the games to easily stream through PlayStations and DVD players with internet connection would make it more tolerable

I'm streaming the Rockets games now and it's good in some ways. The issue is streaming for the most part a single user experience that might not allow for a family to sit and watch the game comfortably from a single device. I have a SMART TV that I can access it from but the rest of the TV's in my house don't have that capability. It's just kind of a clunky way to watch the game.

Being able to watch the games on my laptop when I travel has been nice though.

Also, would it be expensive to do this since this is an alacarte way to watch the games and the teams are looking for deals that are all inclusive of a providers customer base.
