The obvious ones I've heard is implement the college rule and make it 2 shots + the ball. I'm okay with the hacking player strategy, but would like to add some conditions to at least speed up the game in terms of game clock. 1. The player can only be hacked if he has crossed midcourt. This will allow at least a few more seconds per possession to tick off the clock. The player could intentionally not cross midcourt so it would be a 4-on-4 situation potentially. 2. If a player is hacked, the game clock shall be deducted time equal to the remaining time on the shot clock. So if a player is immediately hacked after they gain possession, 24 seconds would be subtracted from the game clock. Any other ideas?
Actually, the option of dodging the foul by standing in the backcourt would make for some really fun tactical theatrics. I'd watch that. Do we accept the quick foul, or do we tell Dwight to walk back on O? If we wait to bring him across until 10 on the shot clock, do they foul or play 10 seconds of defense? Some interesting decisions.
1. 3 foul shots 2. 2 foul shots and the ball back 3. Treat it like a tech. Best free throw shooter gets to go to the line.
Current rules are ok, for the most part. I would only make a couple adjustments. 1-If a player is fouled and he does not have the ball, that player gets to choose who takes the free throws. 2-In the final two minutes, if a foul is committed and the team is past the 5 team fouls, then the location of the ball will determine the amount of shots. If the ball is outside the 3 point line, its 3 shots. If its inside, its 2. 3-Any intentional foul that is clearly only intended to put a player at the line will result in a two fouls against that player. I do not want to change the dynamics of the game. Like most other people, we hate watching 45 minutes of lack luster playing only to see the final two minutes of the game to turn into a free throw shootout.
Should be the pair of free throws for the one hacked + 1 technical free throw for one designated player.
I like: - 3 shot foul for the hacked player. - Treat each hack foul as a technical against the team. So every foul is a 2000 dollar fine. Let's see how long hack a player last with some cheap owners. - 1 shot foul by the player of the hacked players choosing so if people foul Dwight, Harden gets to shot a foul shot. - For every two hack a player fouls, the hacked player team gets 2 extra free throws. So 6 free throw chances if a team hacks twice. I think a hack a player should count as a delay of game too. And in this case and extreme delay of game. But there needs to be a bigger punishment for hacking a player. It's horrible for the game.
- during the 4th quarter if the player is hacked, the team can choose to take the free throws or inbound it. If they want to inbound it the shotclock will be set to 14 seconds.
i think 2 shots + ball is a good remedy. and it shouldnt just be butthurt rockets fans who cringe at dwights free throws. This loophole rule has slowed down the game and halted the excitement of the NBA brand. This is why I think the NBA will look at this rule this offseason. Its happening to more players than just Dwight. Happened to Dejuan Blair tonight. Anyways, I do think a change will happen. NBA cares (punny?) way too much into its image to let the excitement of their game diminish towards the end of games
Howard should inbound the ball and immediately run into the crowd Artest style. Heck he would still get chased. Maybe we can have Red Rowdies sit there and surround Him so he cant get fouled.
2 shots + the ball would completely erase this problem. But the problem is, the NBA would never do that. Instead, they should implement a 3 FT intentional foul. That way teams who use the strategy have to outweigh the risk of them missing fts or making them and hurting themselves more. Just a suggestion. If Dwight was given the opportunity to shoot 3 fts, then a coach would have to reconsider if the benefit out weights the risk.
This is only a problem to some of you because it affects the Rockets, which is understandable since this is a Rockets board. However, it was hilarious when he was on the Lakers.
Personally, I dont care I just want the same rules that apply at the end of the 4th quarter to apply to quarter #2. Also the hack a player strategy should be ok...these guys are paid millions of dollars to make shots...and at clutch moments...if they falter, thats on them. Go up there make shots and this wont be a problem. For all who wanna see this changed...one suggestion i have...Each half of a game should have a 10 foul bonus limit. Once that is accrued, foul #11/+ should trigger a 1-1 and the ball...
it's been bull**** ever since it happened to Shaq, however it has never been this bad, it's happening in at least 4 games a week.
