Need to buy a TV.. Budget: $1600 Need: 60" 1080p LED Don't care about: Web browser Wifi 3D Any advice? Particular brands? Things I should be considering more carefully?
If you're willing to BF shop....there are some great deals out there. I've been eyeing the Vizio 70", it's like $980 during BF....
Some places don't charge shipping. Some don't even have tax. I bought my last tv @ Newegg.com No tax, free 2 day shipping (at the time), and it was cheaper than the price at Bestbuy. Check through BF and Cyber Monday.
60" Vizio LED 1080P for $688 @ Wal-Mart on BF with 1 HR In Stock Guarantee. So as long as you show up within that hour, you will get it. http://weeklyad.walmart.com/Walmart...motionviewmode=2&pagenumber=1&storeid=2496937
That tv has been available online for the price from walmart. Albeit, it is refurbished but you can get a 3yr warranty on it for like 80 bucks. It's a good deal. I saw some 55" and 50" deals for around $400.
I should clarify, I'm not in the US, and international shipping is usually not free. Not looking to play games, but will be watching high resolution stuff - sometimes up to 4k, but usually around 1080p. Looking at 1080p because the 2k and 4k TV's are still way out of my price range for the size I want. I will be hooking up a media center to it, so I don't really need it to have apps and browsers and so on. Things like netflix and hulu don't work here anyway. I saw a Sharp 60" LED today for around $1500 but didn't have time to really check it out, will look at some reviews when I get home.
4k tv will not dip into your price range unfortunately (not anything worth buying anyway). I'd stick with LED TVs over Plasma or LCD. Some very good reliable brands in my experience are Sony, Samsung, and Sharp. There should be plenty of 60-75" TVs in your price range. the only difference would be the bells and whistles for the most part. You should be comparing the following: Hz: You'd want 240Hz out of a LED TV but that price point may be a bit low to guarantee. Look for 120Hz with some sort of trumotion or something similar to compensate. Resolution: This should probably go without saying, 1080P. 4K if you can, but you don't want something that will break within a year of purchasing (dont fall for gimmicky cheap made 4k tvs). 3D: You don't need it, dont get it. Extra money for NOTHING. Also adds weight to the TV. Viewing Angle: Unless this TV is just for you and you plan on sitting dead center of the TV, Find a TV with a wide viewing angle. Something very close to 180 degrees. Contrast Ratio: You shouldn't have to worry about this, most TVs nowadays are very high in this. True Black: This is very important, Some blacks look gray, others look blue, a true black is hard to find but well worth it (especially if watching High Res Video). I do not know where you live or how much shipping will be. This being said, $1600 may only get you a $1000 TV. This may limit some of the aspects of a TV. Good luck, and yes BF-CM deals should be good for you this year!
As someone already mentioned, the 70" LED from Walmart is pretty good. Sams is also having a VIP sale on the Sunday before Thanksgiving week from 7-9 PM -- as long as you're a Plus member. They have the TV there too. http://www.samsclub.com/sams/html/mobile/vip.html Well worth it since the TV costs $1700 right now.
Damn would love to get this. Those websites don't ship outside the US though. Anyone willing to buy me one on black friday?
I just got a LG 60 inch wifi for for $929. It's the one here. http://www.frys.com/ads/page1?source=dallas They also have a 10% of speakers when you buy a TV and this was on sale, so got it for $270 http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_...i_sku=SPM7869233802&sid=IDx20130125xMPALLx028 Oh, not in U.S. nvm
Why do you want an LED? The best TV's are Plasma. You may have heard bad things about plasma, but it's all false. There were some problems with plasma when they FIRST were introduced to the market years and years and years ago. But those have all gone away years ago. The TV's with the best pictures are all plasmas. Here is the best TV you could possibly get in regards to picture quality in your price range... and yes, it's a plasma, it's 60", and it's $1,420. Panasonic TC-PST60: Review from C-net. Editor's Choice, 5-stars, Spectacular rating. "The midlevel price and outstanding quality of the Panasonic TC-PST60 series make it our strongest TV recommendation ever." "I've written TV reviews for more than 10 years, but I'm pretty sure this one is the most important. I'll cut to the chase: if you value picture quality, don't have money to burn, and don't game seriously enough to worry about input lag, you should buy the Panasonic TC-PST60.": http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/panasonic-tc-p60st60/4505-6482_7-35566952.html
Vizio's picture quality doesn't compare to other brands. There is a reason they are "budget TV's". You get a decent large TV for the price, but the OP said he wants great picture quality. And if he is wants great picture quality, Vizio isn't it.
I've purchased 2 different Samsung plasmas over the past couple of years and for picture quality, it is outstanding. I will say this. You get the blackest blacks with plasma, and 600hz vs. max of 240hz with LCD which makes for a better picture with sports especially. The main drawback of Plasma...it doesn't look as good in a well lit room with lots of sunshine as an LCD will. As mentioned above, I bought my 60" Samsung plasma last November from Best Buy. I managed to buy it about a week prior to the black friday events and got it for $780 with NO sales tax (love living in Montana). I imagine it will be easy to find something well within your budget.
The room must have to have sun shining directly on the TV for it to have any effect on a plasma. I have a Panasonic plasma, and I always have my blinds open during the day, so the room is very bright, and the picture is perfect. I have an LED tv as well, and that is in a room where the sun shines directly on the TV in the morning, and it is hard to see the picture. So unless the sun is shining directly on the screen, there shouldn't be a problem... and if the sun is shining directly on the screen, then it doesn't matter if it's an LED, LCD, or plasma, it's going to be hard to see the picture.
