Ok, I want to know what yall would do in this situation. I am a manager for a fairly large retailer, and we have a customer who comes in from time to time with an assault rifle over his shoulder, he never causes any issues, just shops and minds his own business. I've actually talked to him a few times and he says he just doesn't feel comfortable leaving it in the car. Here's my question though, I understand it's his 2nd amendment right to carry this firearm, I also understand my right as a merchant to ask him to leave. As you could assume, this makes some customers uncomfortable and every time he is in I get complaints. So would you allow him to carry on or ask him to remove the firearm?
Since you've talked to him, he might take it easier if you just explained, that not all customers are comfortable with him having the rifle on his shoulder and if would mind not bringing it in with him the next time. If he doesn't want to leave it in his car, maybe he could leave it at his house.
then you are SOL open carrying a rifle into a retail store is irresponsible gun ownership puts people rightfully on edge for no reason OTOH, if something went down you might be glad he was there
We prohibit the unlicensed carrying of firearms but he is licensed. Guy carrying a gun and a woman breastfeeding in the store are my 2 least favorite calls lol, I know their rights, and I know it makes others uncomfortable, lose-lose for me either way so I usually heir on the side of a persons rights so it doesn't turn into a news story on abc 13 haha.
These people are attention whores. They think they are promoting gun rights, but they aren't. Just the opposite.
If he is causing others to be fearful and you are in an urban area, it could be cited as disorderly conduct.
I almost agreed with a Commodore post, until that last paranoid line. LOL. Yeah, if "something went down", most real-world experience tells us he (the irresponsible gun owner) would start threatening and perhaps harming the innocents. Also, Clear Lake: I hardly knew ya. WTF is wrong with people.
It isn't exactly rural. Clear Lake certainly meets the definition of urban. Rural areas are like the ranching areas of West Texas.
Why would anyone be scared of a strange man carrying an assault rifle into a store, I know that's always my question.
I would tell him to take his "rights" to another store if it is completely necessary for him to carry an AR around... He obviously has some sort of issues with paranoia or something.
