Yeah, he usually isn't getting a double team any more. Late in the Philly game, they surprised him with a double team, and because it was so unexpected, they were able to steal the ball from him. That said, the Ben Wallace comparison is unfair. He's got more offensive game than that.
To be fair, when the double team does come, Dwight has generally been pretty good about finding the open man. His passing has been one of the bright spots in his offensive game this year.
yeah that was shocking. he's not demanding the ball, that's his fault. he b****es about it, but he doesn't do it.
One thing I noticed, is as the entry pass comes in, he hops out a half step to grab it. He needs to sink his butt into the defender as the pass comes in to push them away from a steal. Instead he's giving up position without the defender having to work for it.
Honestly, I don't care if Dwight scores. Dwight is what he is at this point. His buckets should come in the flow of the game and the Rockets should not be force-feeding him down low. If he only gets 6 FGA off of Offensive put backs, alley-oops, etc. but puts up his usual 15 Reb, 4 Blocks, Rim Protecting defense... then I think the Rockets will be a much better team as opposed to when we're bending over backwards to post up Dwight so he can do the same exact jump hook over and over again or turn the ball over. Dwight didn't get many looks last night.. but he still had a TREMENDOUS impact on the game for the Rockets on the defensive end as well as offensive rebounding.
great post harden + parsons + lin = 79 points and none of them was on fire or anything like that. Same core from last year getting back to work on the RUN & GUN offense when howard doesnt slow things down with a alot of touches. Howard can be the defense anchor down low & takes what he gets on offense set better screens. Hopefully Garcia & casspi shots can start falling and jones plays his role.
Is Dwight even 100% healthy? What I'm worry is that his body will never be right. I just don't see Orlando Dwight's getting bossed around by Bargnani of all people. (yeah, yeah, Bargnani is a capable 1v1 defender, so what)
i loved that he didnt let the offensive woes faze him and he got right back on the other end to make key blocks
Wish we could see this Dwight again. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/RWRgOwC2jw8?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> He just played his game. Dunks everywhere.
I have advice for Dwight's post game... "Don't do it!" That is all. Eff the post and go with the PnR. Bust out the post game when you finally don't need to think about what you have to do and can just do it for crying out loud. If you have to think about every move you make, you aren't going to fool anyone.
I appreciate Barkley's advice, but he is aware that the NBA got rid of Illegal Defense rules since he retired, right? Barkley and Shaq would be zoned a lot in today's game. And hell, Shaq would be doubled without the ball in JVG man-on-man defenses.
I doubt that would have affected either player as much as you think. Barkley was an underrated passer, with great court awareness. Hell, towards the end of his career, he would post up and gain position in order to simply draw the illegal defense call... and half the time, he'd make the call for the ref. He'd find a way to bust any sort of zone by finding the open man, or taking both defenders off the dribble. As far as Shaq goes, the zone didn't stop the older version of him... certainly wouldn't have stopped the younger version. NBA players are too good of shooters to automatically commit two defenders to a post-player without the ball. Hell, if Dwight consistently got that sort of attention (which he doesn't), this team would be able to feast on the wide open 3's.
I actually think his right-handed hook is underrated. He should go to it more. Instead, I think he tries to re-invent his moves with each possession. If he went right the previous time, he'll commit himself to going left regardless of where the defense is playing him. If he posted up on the left block the time before, he'll go to the right the next time... really screws with the rhythm. If he goes to his most comfortable move (the right handed hook) a few times, he'll be able to set up many more moves based on the threat of that. THAT was what was so lethal about Hakeem. Once he established one move, he would play all his other moves off the threat of that. Right now, Dwight isn't establishing anything.
Hes been in the league for almost 10 years and added very little to his game since he got in, do you guys really think hes gonna improve any facet of his game all of a sudden Lol
