Money apparently mattered quite a bit when the Rockets offered him more money than any other team was willing to pay. I'm quite certain he could've signed for $3mil with the Heat and been the starting center on multiple championship teams. Let's call a spade a spade. Asik wants to start so he can put up better stats to make more money on his next contract, which is likely his last big contract given his age. I have no problem with that. But let's not act like Asik isn't about money.

The only issue I have with Asik is that he's not being smart about this, or he doesn't know how Morey operates. The more he tries to sabatoge his own trade value by demanding trades, the less likely he is actually going to be traded. If he just kept his mouth shut, play typical 15~20mpg as backup and do well, Morey would've been glad to trade him at the deadline. Now? If teams are lowballing Morey, Asik will remain a backup here.

I bet Chicago wouldn't have matched that offer....

He was a RFA, not an UFA, money was the only thing that kept Chicago from matching, if being backup for a contender was what we wanted, he already had it.

Um...I actually like Nicholson, but that is the worst trade proposal I've heard so far. I would have to choke back my own bile if that trade went down.

Wow I stand corrected. Nicholson has really made strides so far in his 2nd year. He's Pattersonesque. If he keeps improving he's got a chance to be a really good player. Still, I don't think he's much of an upgrade over Jones.

Trade Asik back to Chicago and ask Tai Gibson in return. He's a very decent PF with jumpshot and he's also a strong rebounder. But his contract is too long for DM, IMO.

And after he will grow enough as a player, which his agent says he wants to do, he'll want to play for a ring - even as a backup.

We don't always get what we want, but we have to make the best of what we get. There are a lot of situations around NBA teams that can make their players cringe (Harden trade for example), yet you don't see everyone reacting like Asik is.

Not sure if it's only Asik's fault.... Didn't have the impression that Dwight got along very well with Asik and that he wanted it to work as well.... Rember when he took Asik the rebound away ??.... I guess Asik has enough cuz Howard's " to big to sit in the backseat of a car" ;)

    I hope I'm wrong but I c chemistry issues I didn't see last year....

Agree completely - except about Lin being traded. Regardless of Omer's offensive limitations, he was great for us last year, and as far as I can tell, has not been creating drama and dissension dispute losing his well-earned starting center spot.

I really wish the twin towers experiment had worked out. However, with an eventual trade he can move on to a starting position and have a positive impact on another (hopefully eastern conference) team.

As kmart says, I wish him the best.

I said it way back. Asik should have been traded. A top 5 Defensive Center has no business playing back up minutes

If I were to wake up one morning and see Morey had pulled something way out of left field as per usual - and sent Howard to Detroit for Greg Monroe and others meaning we had a frontcourt of Asik and Monroe.... I'm not sure I'd even be disappointed.

Exactly. I haven't seen any evidence of Omer not giving full effort.

The effort part is the 4 minutes he played a couple nights ago, no way that was the omer we were use to

The Rockets really bungled this whole thing. Why did McHale have to go from starting Asik to giving him a mere 4 minutes and then no playing time? Asik would still be valuable coming off the bench. He'd be valuable at the end of games, when Howard's inability to hit FTs becomes a major liability. They could use him in this role while privately looking to trade him.

Agreed, he still could have played close to 25 minutes a game if managed properly.

To say Omer has shown nothing this year is incorrect. He has rebounded well, and he is a good defensive player. That is not showing nothing.
