GS wants to compete for a championship, they need a center especially with injury prone Andrew Bogut. What about a Asik for Barnes/filler deal?
Psssst this is the only to get him for cheap.... If his trade value was skyrocketing they would ask for the stars
Barnes and Speight would be amazing say for Asik and Jones. However Asik wants to start and I don't see him starting over Bogut.Barnes as a 6th man off the bench would still get a lot of minutes and Speight is a big guy with a solid jumper and he is a tough SOB. An enforcer type.
I totally agree with this. Rayn Anderson would add very little to the Rockets and in no way addresses the void left by Asik. Remember, the Rockets now have two high caliber centers. With Anderson Greg Smith would be the only reserve centre (unless you consider DMo one). The problem with Milsap, who is very attractive player, is actually the same. The Rockets still would need a reserve centre. I would look at something like Asik and DMo to Cleveland for Varejao and Zeller. Varejao is a PF and Zeller a reserve center. Both are agile and Varejao as a great rebounder. Zeller runs the floor well and has a midrange shot. Varejao has played center for the Cavs for years, so he can easily cover that too when needed.
"San Antonio Spurs for Tiago Splitter -- The Rockets would have to come to the table with another piece or two to make the deal work for Splitter, who is making $10 million this season and is signed through 2016-17. But Splitter would give the Rockets a more offensive-oriented big man to pair with Howard, while Asik would give the Spurs a true center to pair with Duncan. Fittingly, Asik's current deal would expire the same year as Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili." Did the authors of this "Insider" piece even look to see what divisions teams play in? The last thing I'd want is to see Asik on the Spurs.
Ersan Illyasova has always been my ideal target. Over the last 3 years. 10.2 Reb/per 36, 45% from 3. Good shooter ,rebounder and capable defender. He is grossly underutilized in Milwaukee. LMA and Love are obviously dream targets, but Illyasova is much more attainable.
Ilyasova's numbers were almost always great, especially in the contract year two years ago (coincidence?), but I don't like him. His play have too much highs and lows and is unreliable. Like most people from Balkan peninsula, he lets emotions take over and his mood dictates his play too much. Same as Turkoglu, Asik...(they are all from Turkey, NOT a coincidence).
This is a great and somewhat reasonable scenario. Curious if the Sixers would do it. Illyasova Ryan Anderson Millsap Those are all deals that I feel confident would be accepted by the other team. But you just know Morey is going to surprise us.
Also the. Bucks are in such disarray you might offer some package of Bev, Asik, DMo/Jones for Illyasova and Sanders.
im staying away from sanders, hes out for 6 weeks with injury and he has all of those weird allegations of animal cruelty + dat contract
I agree, they need to trade for someone who plays decent but is a team player who doesna't needto look for their shot.
Asik for Tiago.... lolol Yeah sure the Rockets want to help the Spurs win the title this year. Also, would Tiago be excited to come to Houston to be Dwight's backup as well???... my guess is no. I think Jones actually has the potential to be a great fit next to Howard, and I think between D-Mo/Smith (get well), small ball, and maybe a veteran that they can pull at the end of the year either from waivers or Camby, I think the Rockets can man the backup 5 with what they have. Okafor after a Phoenix buyout would be best case scenario. When trading Asik, I wouldn't rule out players at the 1 through 4 spot. Keep an eye on the Granger situation in Indiana. Dont rule out the Rockets looking at Batum if LMA isn't getting moved for sure(imagine the impact with the perimeter defense). Also, the guy you might want to keep your eye on is Ty Lawson. He's sure does look to be their guy moving forward, but his contract isn't exactly the type of contract new GM's like having on their books if they are about to blow up their roster and rebuild. If Morey had the chance to go with a 3 guard lineup of Harden/Lawson/Lin, you'd have to think he'd jump at the chance to get a deal done. Also Lawson runs the point like a true PG... something this team desperately needs.... and Howard is rumored to wanting as well. Just saying... dont rule out any position just because they aren't a PF or backup 5.
Everyone is saying that our defense suffered too much when Asik wasn't on court last year. Probably same happens this year when Howard gets some rest. Garcia SF, Casspi PF and D-Mo C; did you have this in mind when talking about small lineups from bench? I guess that lineup would lose all the lead that starters would be able to build.
Barring blockbuster trade, Asik for PJ3 + picks and filler is what interests me. Those cheap young talent and picks are like cash with flexibility. PJ3 is buried on OKC bench, but he developed 3pt shot and was considered a top5 pick if not for injury concern.
Not necessarily.... in the past two games when Houston has went small with Howard off the court, the offense has just exploded. It just depends on who you are getting back as well. If you get someone like Batum back in the trade, your perimeter defense more than makes up for what you loose in size in the paint. Getting more athletic on the wings can help the defense with both units out just as much as having paint protection, AND will be able to still play the Rockets desired style of play... and might actually improve it. Of course Dwight's backup situation will ultimately have to be addressed one way or another, but there will be options this Summer, and the Rockets will have the mid-level to offer someone like Okafor. The narrative that the Rockets defense dropped of without Asik on the floor is true, but keep in mind this only came into play when Morey was playing the PR game in dealing with the Asik/Howard situation. Morey LOVES going small, and even though there is a drastic drop-off at the painted area, going small for 10-15 minutes a night is definitely something Morey and McHale are comfortable with if there is potential offensively for that unit to run the floor with other teams second units.
Asik would have to back up Perk in OKC because even though Perk sucks he apparently has photos of OKC's owner engaging in criminal activities and is guaranteed to start and get minutes.
