Steve Kerr was a former GM. Really makes you think what actual GM's are thinking of asik's trade value. Kerr is an idiot.
Good for Omer? So you're more interested in what happens to our 4th or 5th best player than in what happens to the team? Good for Capsman.
IF Carmelo didn't have a brain fart I think the Knicks would have won... Man the Rockets looking real disappointing. Maybe those preseason rankings were right. Rockets shouldn't have nail biting games against the bottom feeders.
Morey will want a solid player or perhaps a guy in his final year (plus, as pick). Any decent fours in their final year?
I feel bad for Omar, he did alot for this team last year and deserve better than what he has become this year for the team. There are some people on this board saying he should just suck it up since hes getting paid and has a chance for a championship. But any player witj pride will be upset about this situation. Whats the point of winning a championship if you are barely a part of the reason.
Since he didnt get any pt vs the Knicks, either McHale is trying out newer rotations, or Morey doesnt want him hurt.
He's asking for a trade. As far as I know he isn't refusing to play. I think Morey has told McHale to keep him on the bench to avoid injury before a trade can be made. I don't think Asik has done anything wrong. Any player of his ability would be disappointed to only get 12 minutes per night. This is why McHale wanted the twin towers to work. He knew we would be forced to make a trade as soon as the TT was scrapped. If Howard can't get his act together on the offensive end of the floor, Clutchfans are going to be wondering if the much cheaper Asik would have been a better choice at the center position. Howard is better, but if he has no low post game, and can't shoot free throws, then is he worth the extra money over what we pay Asik?
Not quite the point. Omer could be getting 15-20 minutes on a contender [assuming we gel?]. On the other side of the coin, if we can get a Robin Lopez level player ++ extras in return, then we're miles ahead on the chemistry front.
Per ESPN/Brian Windhorst: Omer Asik's request denied again http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/9978382/omer-asik-trade-request-denied-houston-rockets-again
I was thinking the same thing. Howard most nights seems like more of a liability than an asset. Asik was a consistent performer; every night you pretty much knew what you were going to get, about 10 and 10. Howard is spastic, you never know what you are going to get. I am amazed how ineffective he is offensively. With his body, he should be dominating.
I can understand Omer's feelings and I do sympathize with him, but at the same time I think he is wrong to take those feelings and turn them into a PUBLIC trade demand. If you're going to say anything, do it in private to Morey & McHale and don't let anything leak to the press. You signed a contract, man. That contract did not say "You get to play 30 minutes a game at the center position". Most people would be beyond thrilled to get paid $8.4M a year to sit on their butts. And if you just kept your mouth shut you'd still get to play 15-20 minutes a game at least. Honestly it's kind of a b**** move to do to the first team to give you a big payday in the NBA. You know it's going to hurt your trade value. Man up, get your checks, and stay in good shape for your next contract.
Feel bad for Omer as well, the question now is, would you prefer a high scoring 4 or a couple pieces that fit better on the team? I personally wouldn't want a josh smith type...we have enough players on this team that need touches
