I got 2 things to say about Kubiak: 1. He might be a bit too conservative when it comes to 3-score leads, but he's not dumb. I'm sure the refusal to commit to Keenum for the rest of the season is a form of push on Case. If he really inserts Schaub into starting lineup, his the whole city will be calling for his head and he might get fired on the spot; 2. His extremely conservative play calls when we're up 3 scores might have something to do with him going to A&M. When you're up 3 scores, you know you've been the better performing team and in which case we have to keep our foot on the other team's neck instead of voluntarily reeling on D and give the other guy a free chance to get up and a chance to rally back. It's happened too many times it's not even funny no more.
You have to remember Kubiak did not voluntarily start Keenum, only after Schaub got hurt was he forced to make the decision. He was hellbound in proving his decision for making schaub his starter and justifying his outrageous contract legit. He should go now and give a HC a head start on next season.
What head coach? If Kubes is fired now, it's not like they're going to hire somebody else now. Wade would be the interim coach and they'd start their search once the season ends. That's just how it works. What could a new coach do right now anyway? He wouldn't have his assistants in place (unless you really want a coaching staff completely made up of people who are currently out of work) and it's not like he'd start installing new systems in Week 11.
Yeah its not really a head start BUT it does show the fan base that the owner is on their side too. Gary has had many chances and years to prove he can get it done but he hasn't taken us to the promise land. Bob needs to step up and fire him to show that he still has passion and fire about his team like all his fans do.
You bring in a new coach now he can evaluate the players and who is gonna be here next year, you can bet your ass the players will play 100% to make next years team. Just because "thats how its done" doesnt meant it has to be. Bob needs to think whats best for the team moving forward and stop diddle daddling.
I understand most candidates currently have jobs and you have to wait till the end of the year to make offers, im just getting impatient i guess.
I would have said the same thing going into this game, but now it looks like Schaub is probably going to be starter going in next week. Which is another sign Kubiak needs to go. No point to playing anyone other than Case, even if he ISN"T the QB of the future. Better to give him the experience and let him make the mistakes during a year where you aren't going any where. He either proves he belongs or doesn't. Schaub even playing well does nothing for us at this point. We know his ceiling and it isn't high enough to be going back to him in a season with no hope for the playoffs.
If McNair won't fire Kubiak in the next 24 hours, he might just be back next season. McNair is almost criminally stubborn.
He's not getting fired during the season and there is no chance for him to be back next year. It's pointless to fire a coach during the season unless you actually think Wade can help turn this team around to make the playoffs. Season's over so just let it play out.
Unless the goals of the coach (win now, save my job) and the franchise (season's lost, plan for the future) are in direct conflict. If there's even a chance of Case being the starter next year, then playing Schaub stunts his development. If Kubiak trying to win when he's going to be fired anyway (how could he not be at this point) is limiting the experience and development of next years potential starting QB, then he's actually harming the franchise beyond just losing games and should be fired immediately.
There is a point in firing Kubiak if you think he is set on Schaub and Wade would play Case. The only point now is to see what you have in Keenum and give him experience. Let him make his mistakes, and prove he belongs or doesn't so you know which way to go in the draft.
No he didnt, if schaub didnt get hurt you never would have seen keenum period, the fact is schaub is kubiaks boy . If today didnt prove it to ya nothing will.
I think Kubiak expected Schaub to ride in on a pony and carry Kubiak into the playoffs and Super Bowl, saving both of their jobs in the process. I would not be shocked if he started the next game.
I was ready to see him go already, but I never thought it was enough to get him fired. Even more so after the halftime scare as I figured it would garnern even more sympathy from Bob McNair. There's no way that Kubiak didn't pass the Event Horizon today.
Just curious... Why does everybody dislike Rick Smith? - Mario Williams over VY and Bush - In that same draft: Demeco, Winston, DANIELS - Drastically improved our team with the trade for Schaub to replace Carr - Traded down with ravens to get Duane Brown, best LT in the AFC and was a TE and on nobody's radar and Slaton, who had a fantastic rookie year. - Cushing and Barwin, (i'm under the impression we got the best outta barwin) - Kareem who thankfully tremendously improved with the addition of Phillips - The oh-so-loved JJ Watt who nobody was excited about on draft night - Antonio Smith has been EXTREMELY serviceable since he signed here - Chris Meyers who has been a pro bowl center - Jonathan Joseph who helped Wade change the culture of our defense - Let us not forget signed ARIAN FOSTER and Keenum as UNDRAFTED FREE AGENTS I know he has made mistakes, I just don't understand why he is so disliked.. Can anyone shed some light?
Agreed. While I wanted him fired regardless, I could've seen Kubiak salvaging the season in McNair's eyes by winning vs ARI, OAK, and 2 vs JAX and going 6-10. Even 5-11. But after losing today, I don't think there's anything he can do short of winning out (ain't happening) to save his job. It's so bad right now that I'm not even sure he makes it to next week. I never would've predicted that Bob would fire Kubes mid-season, but now I'm not so sure.
