Was that 3 or 5 years to reach their potential? Because most stars get it by year 2 or 3. It might be 5 years for a bench player to learn a lesson, and that is how to stop wanting to be the man. Hill had so much potential and ability. Yet he is still trying to find the consistency which would have made him a borderline all star. Hill is learning his NBA experience is of the supporting cast, with a few steller games sprinkled here and there.
I actually think that the Rockets and Carroll Dawson specifically saved this guys career. When this guy first came to the Rockets he really looked like one of these lottery pick bigs who was led to believe that he was supposed to be the next this guy or that guy offensively, and never really cared to learn much about defense, and rebounding. But with working with CD, you could really see that they found out a way to make the game much more simple for him, gave him one or two go-to moves offensively, and got him to buy into what they saw he could be elite at which is rebounding. Now, we saw glimpses of this every 3 games with the Rockets, but now the Lakers look to be the ones who really are reaping the benefits of what kind of player Jordan Hill is now. All the credit here should go to CD & the Rockets for changing the way this guy plays basketball.
Greg Smith had 2 20/9 games last year as a second year guy with less than a year NBA exp. Bigs take time, but JHill flashed more than a few times for us, it's just consistency lacks in bigs...
I agree - TJones has more hustle, a better feel for the game and will be a better all-around player with the same amount of time in the league than Hill. Let's hope McHale rewards TJ with more PT.
I've been saying this for years. I don't think he cares to play or have that passion for basketball. He just happened to be tall. I think he likes the basketball life style and what goes with it.
Meh. Look at his game log. All this means is that he's likely to have a 20-10 preformance once every 5-10 games. He's improved, but only enough to start on a mediocre team. On a good team, he'd still be a second teamer.
He was always a rotation caliber player in my opinion, but one 20-10 game doesn't suddenly make him into a GREAT player. Honestly he is a nice guy to have on your bench but I doubt he will ever be much more than that.
Yep, I remember you repeating every night how he was a remediless scrub, while other people calling for some patience with young men. Maybe next one is T-Ron, who knows.
Patience? Took him 2 years and a new contract for to amount to something. The team needed the cap flexibility and was never gonna pay to keep him around just in case in becomes better. Holding onto a player has costs, which his play did not justify. It was the same way with Boki Nachbar. When he finally earned 20 mpg with NJ, people talked about how Van Gundy wasn't patient with him even though that happened 4 years after he was traded.
