nah they had shortages for 2k14 apparently. most aren't getting it until 1-2 weeks after launch, unless you pre ordered it early.
just got 3 ps4 games at target for 91 dollars... buy 2 get 1 free promotion and i stacked it with this coupon (30% off when buying 2 games)
nice....same here. I just made a thread about how to get that coupon because I tried earlier and wasn't getting one but ended up having to do multiple separate transactions in a row to get that coupon.
Lulz at y'all playing pee-pee games for 30% off. Looking like Kevin Martin trying to flop his way to 8FTA per game. So... I'm not a PC gamer. Will I be blown away by the graphical improvements from PS3-BF3 to PS4-BF4? Or is it just a slight improvement?
It is pretty substantial to me. Better resolution and a much more solid framerate (close to solid 60 FPS) should make a big difference. Throw in some extra graphical effects for good measure. It is still a cross-platform launch game, so it won't look THAT great, but it should be much better than PS3 IMO. (granted, apparently it seems some people can't tell the difference between 480p and 4K, or 15 FPS and 120 FPS)
Knack is unfortunate, I kind of saw that coming. It seemed like it would get old. Sadly, I also expected Killzone to be pretty but flawed. The confusion I have is the huge disparity in information. You have Polygon who gave it a 5, while most other sites gave it an 8. Kotaku said it wasn't anything special, but said it was pretty and not bad (plus said the ending was great) yet they gave it a "No" but gave CoD/BF a "Maybe" or "Yes" for the exact same reasons. Kind of silly all in all really, it's hard to trust the integrity of the internet these days. Plus half the reviews barely even touched the multiplayer. Makes me second guess my purchase a bit, but a few things: 1 I want a shooter, and I know CoD: Ghosts is garbage. I also know Battlefield doesn't even amuse me slightly. So Killzone is still an obvious purchase. I would say the bigger pause is on the console purchase itself, I very briefly had a moment where I thought about trading my PS4 in for a Xbox One. Then it dawned on me it isn't better over there. I also don't anticipate having to buy several different PS4s for overheating like I did with my Xbox. I think I'll ride this one out. Bunch of reviews in the spoiler. Spoiler IGN - 8/10 "There’s never been a better time for everyone to be paying attention to the Killzone franchise, because Shadow Fall is a step in an all-new, very welcome direction." Destructoid - 9/10 "Killzone: Shadow Fall is the game that will make you happy to own a PS4. This needs to be on your PS4 launch game list." Eurogamer - 7/10 "There's a lack of confidence here that contrasts starkly with Guerrilla's dazzling, sure-footed command of the new hardware. It's a game that any new PlayStation 4 owner will be proud to show off - but it won't be one they remember by the time PS5 rolls around." Polygon - 5/10 "For all the next-gen bluster of its visuals and the repeated blunt-force attempts to ram a message home, Guerilla’s first shot on the PS4 retreads shooter cliches, and poorly. In a launch lineup crowded with shooters, Killzone: Shadow Fall sits at the bottom." OPM - 8/10 "It all adds up to form an impressive launch shooter. A mix of familiar gunplay and just enough new ideas, gorgeous looks and sheer technical wow to make you feel like you’re stepping into a shiny new future." Gamespot - 7/10 "As much as I enjoyed my online time with Killzone: Shadow Fall--and as much as I will enjoy lots more time with it, unlocking perks that allow me to personalize my weapons--I missed Killzone 3's jump pack, which brought a nifty nimbleness to the battlegrounds. I missed it in Shadow Fall's disappointing single-player campaign, too, which sorely needed a shot of adrenaline." Kotaku - "No" "Killzone Shadow Fall succeeds as an example of how amazing a PS4 game can look but feels mysteriously devoid of the secret ingredient that takes games from great-looking to great-feeling." It seems to be a mixed bag when it comes to review for Killzone: Shadow Fall. As one of the PS4's big-named shooter, I expected much higher scores. Will these scores affect your decision to purchase Killzone: Shadow Fall at launch? http://www.gamezone.com/news/2013/11/13/ps4-launch-week-killzone-shadow-fall-review-round-up
I gave up on paying attention to final verdicts/review scores ages ago. I'll read reviews for what they liked/didn't like, and while those sometimes conflict, that will usually give me a good idea of whether I might like the game. Skimming over some of the comments about KZ, I don't really regret giving it a shot (especially combined with what I've seen from gameplay demos). One of my favorite PS3 games (Folklore) got pretty poor scores from reviewers, yet if I skipped it, I would have missed a real gem. (I'm actually thinking I might enjoy Knack too.) edit: I remember reviewers liking Resistance 2 over the original too. Oh man, were they off big time with that.
I don't know why Playstation fans keep trying to get themselves hyped over Killzone. It's been nothing but pretty and consistently mediocre. In any case, I think I'm going to go PS4 first this gen, just not at launch. Hopefully those reports of lots of stock are true, as I'd like to have good availability when I do go to get one.
I'm with you, I just think in a lot of cases it really leads you to question motives. All the reviews scream "pretty, but not amazing" and that results in a 5 from Polygon? I generally go with the average. The average to me says it's still worth playing, I just question reviews that skew one way or the other.
You know this one is almost completely different gameplay wise / aesthetics from the previous games, yes?
Yes, but the results seem to be the same. Hence the so so reviews. I will try it when I get my PS4, but like I said: I've never seen any reason to get hyped over Killzone. Knack's reviews are more disappointing for me.
A few more reviews, the more reviews I read the more positive this game sounds. There are several reviews "in progress" as well. GameTrailers - 8.8 Guerrilla Games needs to recognize that it's not plot points and politics that move its games, but the bullets and guns. If the campaign could take a step back from the spectacle to focus on core concepts and feedback loops, the qualities that make the multiplayer suite so flexible and entertaining could make the campaign even stronger. Gamesradar - 4/5 Sure, Killzone: Shadow Fall has its lulls, but it's a mostly enjoyable experience from start to finish. This is no doubt the PlayStation 4's strongest exclusive launch title. PSNation - 9.5 Even with a couple of stumbles during the campaign, this is a fantastic game, and like I said, I have a hard time believing that this is a launch title. Shadow Fall is the biggest step in evolution that the series has seen, and although a few die-hards may have an issue with the more open nature in sections, I think that many are going to appreciate what’s been accomplished here. The story takes some pretty interesting twists and turns, and the action never gets stale. Multiplayer.it - 8.7 OPM UK - 8/10 A mix of familiar gunplay and just enough new ideas, gorgeous looks and sheer technical wow to make you feel like you're stepping into a shiny new future.
Looking pretty but being mediocre is still better than being ugly and mediocre, like some other strong selling FPS games. I agree about the hype in general though. I did like looking at Killzone for the graphics, but never really cared too much to play them. I did find the story and universe pretty interesting, but the gameplay seemed relatively boring. A linear shooter where you go from point A to point B, shooting boring enemies with boring weapons. It seemed like Shadowfall was breaking from that model just a bit. Maybe the videos weren't representative of the game at large, but the levels appeared much bigger and more open. You could accomplish your goals via a number of ways (saw one video showing 3-4 different gameplay paths). You'd have secondary objectives. The Owl and other features seemed to add more strategy. Etc. Maybe I didn't follow the past games too closely, but this seemed closer to what I was wanting in a FPS game. Enough for me to give it a shot anyway. I'll be playing it in a few days I guess, so I can make my verdict then about whether this is just another boring KZ game, or whether I should be excited for the next KZ game. I've not really paid much attention to the reviews (might look later), so not sure what the deal is. Though any complaints about multiplayer will just fall on deaf ears for me at least (if better multiplayer kept it from being "OMG AMAZING!" then I'm pretty happy). As for reviews, there are certain individuals that I completely disagree with on games. I don't know if that necessarily means they are biased or whatever, but I will not usually put much stock into their opinions (because we like different things). I admit that I sometimes wonder if these reviews are written with clicks in mind, but honestly, I don't really care that much. I already don't think much of the gaming press, so it doesn't really bother me much if XYZ site gives ABC game a controversial review.
Which Killzone games have you played all of the way through? It is hard to believe that you would be saying the same if you have played them all.... They have been really solid games consistently. My only complaint is the multiplayer really. If it were coming out on Xbox then people would be talking about it too.
I've played the first and second one but they didn't hold my interest enough to finish them. Never bothered with the third. Haven't tried the handhelds. Definitely agreed. Like I said, I'll give it a shot. But I suspect it'll just be another forgotten new gen 'launch title' more than anything else.
