But Taj Gibson, from the few Bulls games I've watched, appears capable of shooting from beyond 5 feet of the basket. Which neither Asik nor Howard can.
its also not about shooting, its about limited minutes. TT has shown that it works for limited minutes, but once the opponent has figured out how to counter it, thats where it fails. it only took our opponents 2 games to figure it out... play zone defense + put a bunch of shooters in...
The wingspans of CP + Dwight + O in the front court, other things equal, should lead to better boxing out by itself. I haven't had much time to look at the compilation of stats or observe tape closely, but could it be that that Dwight and Omer's mental anchor that keeps them close to the basket, and their collective mass increase over a traditional line-up ( more mass implies more momentum to counter) makes getting skew, long, chaotic rebounds that stretch the half court more diffiuclt? When one of those 'odd-ball' rebounds and loose-balls goes in the favor of the opponents offense, there is almost always a semi-conflict of who to match up with, and it is coupunded by the aggregate decrease in quickness that which screens and the right amount of passes can pick apart. All it takes is a split second for a dagger. The defensive issues can be fixed with time, though. We'll always have to cover for being down a perimeter defender, but opponents most always shoot worse from range than from up close. If Dwight and Omer can lift their anchors, we should be golden. We've been dowright devasatating at times, but we're too high of a leverage offense to come from behind consistently.
TT line is good as a curveball every now and then... to keep the defense guessing what we are planning to do... its not good as a staple line up... starting line up should be balanced in scoring and defense... so that it is harder for opponents to prepare for it.
