Because many economic studies run have shown that increases in the minimum wage of the scale proposed $10.20 hour have virtually no effect on the number of employed people, helps stimulate the economy and lift millions out of poverty in a matter that helps reinforce the value of hard work.
Total distraction attempt from Obama. He's truly a shameless liar. No wonder his approval rating has sunk to such depths
Total distraction attempt from bitexxx. He's truly a shameless ideologue. No wonder nobody on this BBS takes him seriously.
Why can't they just index the minimum wage to inflation or standard of living? Why are they cherrypicking a random number? Never understood that.
Probably about the same time some of them realize evolution not the Bible has more info about the start of humans. Their believe in their simplistic version of Econ 101, without taking into account the non-real world assumptions underlying their simplistic graphs, is theological and largely resistant to real world historical facts.
Glad to see you backed off your assertion that Obama proposed it as he knew it would be impossible to pass. With 76% of the American people supporting a raise, IF Obama and the Dems actually push it, it could be accomplished.
many links have been posted in previous threads on this forum. google can do it. just avoid obvious editorials spun out by conservative think tanks or even the occasional "research" bankrolled by cranky billionaires like the Kochs.
Show me studies that talk about employment rate and hours worked when minimum wage is increased 40%. I've seen ones that talk about 10% increases, but I haven't seen one that discusses $10.20/hr min wage.
My parents own daycares. Most teachers (non MGT) make about $8 an hour. This would suck for them. The govt (State of Texas) has already cut down on funding childcare for low-income working parents as it is. This will be another reason to sell most of their locations and strictly do franchise childcare centers like Kids R Kids.
I was speaking of a hypothetical. Obama didn't propose this - it's already out there and he expressed his support. And it won't pass anytime soon. Eventually, the Min Wage will of course go to $10 and beyond because inflation will demand it - whenever that is, it won't go straight from $7.25 to $10. It will happen in a stairstep method.
Bush's Final Approval Rating: 22 Percent President Bush will leave office as one of the most unpopular departing presidents in history, according to a new CBS News/New York Times poll showing Mr. Bush's final approval rating at 22 percent. Seventy-three percent say they disapprove of the way Mr. Bush has handled his job as president over the last eight years. Mr. Bush's final approval rating is the lowest final rating for an outgoing president since Gallup began asking about presidential approval more than 70 years ago.
Ignorance = trying to use the german economy and its cradle-to-grave welfare state as part of a ham-fisted tirade against socialism Not that it's even relevant to the thread at all of course.
