Well maybe Lillard had a bad day to? So if Lin does well on his opponent he gets the credit, but if Bev owns the best PG in the game it's Pauls bad day?. You'r bias is spewing out dude.
Offcourse not. Beverley's 4 steals and containing Pauls dribble penetration was due tp Pauls bad day.
I'm not saying anything to discredit Bev. I love his play. But when Lin and Beverley played the same guy, Lilliard, Lin did a better job this year and he did on other guards when they both played in the same game so far this year. I don't think it is fair to compare Paul's first game to the last one, he was on a huge roll in the first game and if you look at his games leading up to this game, he hasn't played on that same level.
Nonsense. Lilliard, having a bad or good game, had a harder time scoring and playing his game on Lin than Beverley had on the same day in the same game. I'm saying go with the same game to compare defenses, not different games.
That's why you need a bigger sample size. James Harden can be best defender like you said if you just point out a few games.
And Paul who is twice the player Lillard had was having an easier time scoring on Lin then Bev. See how that works?
What you are missing from my point is if Paul was on the same roll and suddenly his stats changed, then Bev could be most of the cause of that for sure. But Paul's numbers were going down, so his play wasn't as strong entering the game against Bev. Paul scored mostly on Lin had 4 and 5 fouls especially. Before that he didn't really score that much on Lin. Lin also didn't have Bev to help him as Bev had Lin to help him with Paul when he got in foul trouble. It's not just about that one game anyway. And there's not enough sample size as Bev hasn't played the same amount of game. So, let's see what happens. But so far, Lin has played better defense than Bev overall. Not just one game against one player. Lin doesn't always play Paul, and maybe Paul isn't the best matchup for him. But if he is effective against other strong point guards like Lilliard, if not the best one like Paul is, that matters. Bev should play even better against Lilliard since he isn't as good as Paul but that wasn't the case. So, let's see what happens with more matchups as the season progresses.
You are now just making stuff up. If Paul was on the same roll. Give me a break. I;m sure Bev defense had a lot to do with Paul not being on the same roll.
At the end of the day I think we can all agree that we need a much larger sample size on Beverley (and the "new" Lin) before you can definitively say that one is better than the other on defense. I personally think that they are about equal (and both are above-average but not D12 elite), but I can understand why a lot of folks think Beverley is such a great defender given his style of play.
Why don't you just go back and look at Paul's stats, at his points. Paul had a lot of assists in this game as well and got Bev in foul trouble. Same thing happened with Lin. The whole Clippers team didn't play as strong a strong a game on Saturday as they did the last time they played the Rockets.
A few games??? I was saying the same thing last season. Jeremy is the one who'll show up defensively one night then the next 5 games you wouldn't dare put his name next to defense. The same cannot be said about Beverley. Bev prides his game on his defense, not his scoring. Whenever Bev scores high in a game, that is a plus.
For all the cherry pickers who keep using the Beverley small sample excuse, did you all sleep through last season???
Last session he wasn't starter. ok. You need a bigger sample size that he can maintain his defense level as a starter.
He played a good amount of steady minutes last season. Definitely enough to know that he was a pretty good defender. He has always been a more focused defender than Lin.
Yes. but alot of time vs opposite backup. Anyway, you look stubborn. Give Beverley some time to prove. He is not a proven starter. ok. He had a whole session to prove himself.
Some stats for this year: Lin Beverley Synergy Sports Defense Rank 98 217 (lower # is Better) Basketball-Reference Defensive Ratg, 107 107 (lower # is Better) Offensive Ratg 113 110 ( higher # is Better) NBAStats.com Defensive Ratg 99.5 99.3 (lower # is Better) Offensive Ratg 108.3 98.9 (higher # is Better) Difference +8.8 -.05 (higher # is better) It appears from these numbers that Lin is contributing more point wise. His defense is rated equal or higher than Beverley's defense by these three services that have an excellent reputation. As Bill Russell said in the commercial : This game is all about buckets. Looks like Lin helps the Rockets get more buckets. However, Beverley is very enjoyable to watch and harasses the player he is covering, and I respect the people who enjoy his hustle and harassment of the other team. I only wish that these behaviors would get the Rockets more points on a consistant basis. It seems that it hasn't up to this point.
