For it to be going on for this long just tells me its on the coaching staff. If you're being out coached after the half and try nothing to adjust, you deserve to go. Also, how have we not worked in a hot route by now involving a quick slant for those all out blitzes we've been getting killed by for three weeks? This game sealed the entire staff's fate, in my opinion.
Couldnt agree more. It's shocking how many sacks that have been allowed in the 2nd half this year. The O-Line is atrocious and the defense is far from living up to the "Bulls on Parade" name and yes... the coaching, i would say, is the #1 reason. Entire coaching staff needs to go and the O-Line needs to be addressed big time this offseason.
Its not even the o line's fault though. They are blitzing more guys than we have to block on third down. This has been going on for the last three weeks. Its the coaching staff's fault and maybe a little of Keenum's fault. We should be throwing quick slants, bubble screens or halfback screens on those plays. Its funny how many plays we've seemed to abandon that worked so well for Schaub. I've seen exceptionally few screens lately, and it seems like that's exactly what we need to kill those blitzes. It makes me think one of two things: we're tanking or the coaching staff has given up on the players.
2nd half adjustments have always been a huge problem for this team for years. Nothing has changed and nothing will. Kubiak/Dennison are stubborn in the fact that they play their game no matter defensive adjustments. They feel like if the players on execute each play properly that iit can't be stopped. Same goes for Wade on the defensive side of the ball. He will adjust but it is almost always too late in the game. I'm just completely done with the entire coaching staff and I pray to the football gods that McNair sees the light and cleans house.
i also dont believe we have the personel on the field to make those reads easier.. if keenum was having trouble beating these blitzes with owen and/or foster there i would be more worried. thing is neither of these guys will be here this season so hes gong to have to learn to adjust with what he has..
I agree that losing Foster hurts the screen game immensely, and OD hurts the quick passing game, but my god, I'd think Andre and Hopkins would be able to run a quick slant on those plays and have a chance to catch the ball. It seems ridiculous that we can't do this. Especially considering we have a young qb back there.
Yeah, the near absence of screens is really weird. It seems like they'd always provide Schaub a safety outlet (usually Arian or OD)... something Schaub liked so much he started going to exclusively this season! Keenum, on the other hand, always seems to be playing with an empty backfield (i.e. no one to pick up the seemingly constant blitz) with all his receivers running far far away... [conspiracy man] It's like he's being set up to fail!! [/conspiracy man] I like the confidence the staff is showing in Keenum with some of the aggressive playcalling, but geez, give the guy a break and give him some safety outlets! Or is Case indeed getting these and just ignoring them in efforts of making the big play? Maybe I haven't noticed!
Are we underperforming in the 2nd half? Or are we simply overperforming in the first half? I feel that you can get an edge to start games through preparation, but that eventually you use up your tricks and talent takes over. So is it possible that the team talent just isn't that good, and therefore we cannot sustain an entire game of superior play?
If any team in any sport displayed a pattern of coming out on fire and fading in the second half, I think most would assume at least two things: poor conditioning and/or poor coaching, or the inability to make adjustments or counter the adjustments made by the other team. What else?
I never understand why we never have the quick slant to Andre in our gameplan. Andre is one of the most physical WRs in the league, so it would seem like this would be an automatic 8 yards every time we throw it. Gotta take what the defense gives you, I guess. I guess that's why we never throw to Andre in the red zone. Doing that would never work, right? Oh, wait......
