There are major problem with McHale's coaching or lack of coaching style. 1) No defense from Harden 2) Harden ISO almost every possessions 3) Who is the PG? When Harden is on the court, he has the ball in his hand at all time, which go back to point #2, he ISO too much. When Harden is in the game, the ball movement complete stop or non-existing. Don't get me wrong, Harden in fact very talented, but no one player can win a 5 v 5 basketball game. It requires team effect and sacrifice. If LBJ has to sacrifice his personal stats for a better good of his team, Harden will needs to do it if you want a chance to advance to 2nd round. Yes, it is questionable if this team get to 2nd round of the playoff.
The Rockets had the #16 defense in the league last year. Points allowed != Defense. You have to adjust for pace.
Lebron is a team player. He fills up the stat board in every category. Great player. A willing passer. harden plays more like Kobe...
Get us a coach that has tremendous defensive strategy, will adhere to the O philosophy of Morey(3s & dunks), but also can be somewhat average of in-game X & O's(anything more than average is merrier). Stan or Lionel would be good. Do not want Jeff, he's absolutely awful on O. It needs to be someone with a presence too, not someone that James will just ignore.
It's a players' league. Mchale has to let harden rest on defense and put up bad step back j. Or he'll lose the job.
Harden's playing more like Steve Francis, than Kobe. Kobe could get himself better looks, was far more athletic, and more talented. He could score off these isolations in the post, etc. And also, every bit as important, Kobe wasn't a liability on D. Just lately he has been with his constant gambling, but in his prime he could do his thing and when needed...step it up. Kobe would take a lot of contested, forced, unecessary jumpers, but he was also far better at doing it. That's what makes Kobe...Kobe. What James is doing is putting people in a tough spot with his 8-second isolations then passes or horrible possessions...it's more Steve Francis, Allen Iverson esque.
I compare Harden to more of a Melo type but at the guard position so holds on to the ball more and goes ISO all the time. Rockets could be facing a future of what the Knicks have been like the last few years if Harden doesn't change his game.
The problem is McHale seems to let Harden do his things. He defers to Harden instead of the other way round. Harden will continue his ISO and Houston will be out in first sound. We need a defense-oriented coach. Our offense scores enough points to win most games if we play better D and limit the turnover.
You may be right there. Oh boy! Are we going to bench Dwight then because Lin is now a bench player? That will be be good for the team but benching Dwight is a lot harder than benching Lin. LOL.
He learned that without doing too much, the Rocket made it to playoff. Now with both Harden and Howard, the team will be championship bond. He just need to make sure his superstars are happy, then they will do their magic things.
No. I think you missed the point. Start Lin will solve the problem. Better still, start Lin and Bev because they compliment each other.
This is why coaching matters: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/dwhaW2nVVcg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

You mean the same coach that constantly complains about the ball being sticky and kept letting Harden ISO?
The Way Mcfail instructs his young players is really bad for the player development. The way these young guys played on the count could reflect the ways they were trained, simply lack of offense strategy and defense effort. If the coach can't play out the strength of his players, then he is not a good coach.
Chemistry between players could theoretically be modelled by the degree of correlation between them for a specific attribute (eg blocks, rebounds, points-in-the paint, etc...) Unfortunately, because no player ever "plays in a vacuum", ascertaining that degree of correlation is not so easy. The easiest way seems to be to try things out: for example, TT results in negative correlation so the total is less than the sum of its parts. Morey should have some statistical tools to suss-out these correlations, given enough playing time. I suspect he knows or will know which combos work out best. However, without that analysis, it is the coaches' job to rearrange the players to maximize team effectiveness.
