That's not entirely true. Kinect also takes up 10% of gpu time. That is a major issue. They're also dealing with lower overall GPU (about a 40% jump in gpu cores on ps4 if I recall, I may be a bit off on the number) / lower memory speed, and a much lower memory bandwidth pipe among other things. I'm not saying games won't be 1080p...but there will be less detail than PS4, period. I'm not just laying out random numbers, these are facts.

I'm not getting ready to get into an argument about this, there are more than enough of those on the internet. With that said, it seems like you're implying there won't be quality games on PS4 (which is funny). I come from only Xbox and that's just an ignorant line of thought. There will be great games on both platforms.

Honestly who cares about the resolution, it's all about the experience. If you like the xbox experience choose that route and if you like the ps4 experience go for that route.

I like the whole entertainment tv integration part of the xbox and so I'm going to go that route. I only play a few games a year anyways

The resolution/graphics discussion came up as a response to someone who was interested in the differences in games for the systems (and less so about the Xbox One's media integration, although it would be a factor). So in that discussion, it can be very important (especially with the more powerful system being $100 cheaper).

PS4 will be able to push higher resolutions, better framerates, and just better graphics overall (and further down the line, it will likely be able to have better physics/AI/etc., as developers make better usage of compute in games). Drivers for the Xbox One apparently are a mess. The ESRAM needs to be properly utitlized for the Xbox One's design to really work well, and right now, the tools apparently aren't up to snuff. That will change over time, and developers will be able push the system harder (especially when they're not stressing over making their launch dates). Quite frankly, there's nothing inherent to the Xbox One's design that is stopping CoD or even BF4 from being 1080p and 60 FPS on Xbox One. Depending on the rendering techniques used, 1080p might always be a bit challenging on Xbox One, but I think it is quite capable of pushing impressive games at that resolution.

On the flip side, much of the same can be said about the PS4. Tools will improve there, and games that are currently 1080p 60 FPS could look even better. Killzone Shadowfall is awesome because, as pretty as it looks/performs, I know developers will come out with games in a few years that make it look like what it is...a launch game for a new console (see Resistance Fall of Man today). Both consoles will have better drivers, better tools, better rendering techniques, etc., and games will look better and better.

As for The Elder Scrolls in general, we *shouldn't* have a repeat of this past generation with the Xbox One and PS4. Bethesda just could not get their engine/games to work well on PS3 due to bottlenecks on the system. It was really quite embarrassing. I don't really see that happening again with these consoles. PS4 is much more powerful, but I think their games should run fine on Xbox One (possibly lower resolution, worse framerate, etc., but don't think it will be broken like some games on PS3). This assumes they are just normal 3rd party games (ala GTA or something), and MS/Sony don't secure some type of deal.

Of course, I believe both Sony and MS would love to have a deal with Bethesda on their next-gen games, which would result in exclusive content for one of the systems. I'll note there was some talk about the next Fallout game (likely for next-gen consoles), although I'm not sure there was much merit to it. The rumor is pretty old at this point (think it was maybe before the revealing of the consoles themselves), but it seemed to imply that Sony or MS might have secured *something* for their next game. I've not thought much of the rumor these days (a lot has changed since then), but it wouldn't surprise me.

So needless to say, if you're interested primarily in those games, it is definitely wise to hold off and wait to see those games announced and running on these systems. Although I'll note that games like The Witcher 3 are pretty awesome, and will possibly be released before those other games. :)

    RC Cola is rambling again...

You do not know what the hell you are talking about. Kinect is not Mandatory. It won't affect games at all. Plus, most launch games are not using the Cloud feature because it was not finalized. The one game that is is Forza 5, which is running at 1080p. Don't spew crap if u don't understand what it means. You are more than "A bit off".

Correction...Kinect is not mandatory in games, it is an option. That 10 percent of gpu usage reserved for Kinect is not going to affect the performance of games. Matter of fact, the cloud feature would offset and games will be able to offload more calculations to the cloud. The problem with launch games is that many are multi-platform and there was rush to get them stable. By this time next year, game resolution won't be an issue.

I'll have to double check, but I don't even think the 10% figure is even for Kinect. IIRC, it is for Snap and maybe some other OS stuff.

The cloud stuff is BS though. That doesn't affect the visuals/resolution, especially since you still get those visuals while offline (or...I'd hope that would be the case). I think Turn 10 was trying to say something like "because the Cloud worked so well, we could focus more on visuals," but even that is somewhat suspect (and certainly not applicable to all games). Forza is 1080p for a number of reasons (including some concessions on "next-gen" tech), but the Cloud isn't one of them IMO.

(On a side-note, there are several other 1080p games for Xbox One. CoD and BF get a lot of attention, but several others are 1080p...although several are 30 FPS, though the PS4 versions are as well IIRC).

edit: Double-checked, and part of the 10% is for Kinect processing. But also for Snap and other processing. Not sure what the breakdown is.

Lol. You're really worked up about this. I'll just accept that you're more intelligent than all of the posts on the internet that disagree with your logic. Also...I don't think you understand how cloud technology works. It isn't going to make the games look any better, lol. I work for a software developer that works primarily in cloud technology. It works for AI etc, but it isn't magic. Anyway...you would obviously know better. Last I'm posting about it.

I'd put MP3 playback over 3D Blu-rays. Whoever gets that implemented first will win the console war I think.

Does it really matter? Both of those things will get fixed in due time. If someone has to decided which one to buy based on those two things, then neither console is really meant for them.

Personally, I think the biggest missing thing for the Xbox One is bluetooth. It's 2013, Bluetooth is a standard in most electronics, it should be included by default. I know it has WiFi Direct, but a lot of things use Bluetooth. Just would've been nice to have as an option.

I'm just joking around. I don't think it really matters. These features should be supported, but if they get them implemented relatively soonish, it is fine.

Kinect, games, TV integration, game streaming, etc., all matter much more IMO, and most of those are being handled very well.

Ah, gotcha. I don't really understand why they make these simple things so difficult. They know that there is going to be a public outcry for these things to be enabled.

I'll cut them some slack since these must be some hellish dev environments. Pretty much writing everything from scratch on hardware that is brand new (and only finalized a few months before launch), and tons of things to do in a short amount of time. As "easy" as most of these things seem, I can see them being pushed aside for launch.

But as I said, now with the systems being released, they really need to focus on getting some of these "easy" things implemented, so people can quit complaining. They aren't important things, but people do enjoy these kind of features.

Is it bad that I'm getting the One for its media center like qualities and don't give a damn about the games? I love the HDMI pass through and the Kinect integration. Its like an apple TV on steroids!

I looked at side-by-side comparisons of 720p versus 1080p stills and, while 1080p definitely looks better, it's hard to notice at sitting distance the further you are away from the screen. And, while 1080p is roughly double the resolution detail of 720p, the actual perceptable difference in the picture quality is still negligible imo. Besides, isn't the XBox One upscaling it to 1080p? That's what I read. I guess that is probably not quite as good as a native 1080p source. But, geez, almost need bionic eyes to tell.

I won't be basing my buying decision with consideration to the above factor. It's got to come down to other stuff, man, like games, peripherals, XBox Live vs PSN, interface, etc. . I still think Microsoft may have the edge as far as camera capabilities and the Live network. However, I am more concerned about the thing breaking down/dying as a lot of 360s inevitably did, including mine. I'm hoping Microsoft learned from its past mistakes with this new console. But, if they have another global issue like that, they were pretty good at fixing it for free. Let's hope the quality out of the gate is a step up.

Stills are OK tests (not sure which stills these were), though you can usually see even more differences in video (usually get to see shimmering and other issues that are a result of lower resolutions, especially on things in the distance). It is usually pretty noticeable to me (the 60p or so difference in some PS3/360 games was usually noticeable), but it is definitely less of an issue on smaller TVs and/or when you sit further away from the screen.

And on top of that, it is still better (IMO) to base decisions based on other factors.

I've already made up my mind to get the xbox and primarily just for the media center/snap feature. I'm more excited about that then any launch game.

When the time comes that the ps4 really shows it's graphical superiority over the xbox, I'll buy it as well. But at launch, with games appearing to be a wash, I think the xbox has a big trump card.

Technically speaking, at least some PS4 games are showing advantages that are substantially bigger than any gap we saw on PS3/360 (and a big deal was usually made about those). It is possible the gap could widen some more, but if that isn't enough of a difference, then I'm not sure it will really change much.

Definitely the main reason for me getting this also. And honestly if it wasn't Apple, Google or MS behind the OS/interface, I wouldn't have the same trust in another company to evolve a feature like this to greater heights. There's a lot of things that can still be done to improve this, and I'm sure they will do it down the line.

I'm a tech junkie, and the Xbox appeals more to me because it seems like the better tech console with all the other stuff this thing can do. I've always wanted to simplify my media center so I can have one machine doing everything, this seems like a good step towards that. Gaming has become secondary for me -- I hardly play anything aside from sports games nowadays.

This is a long shot, but with the cloud and ability and ease to write apps for XB1, backwards compatibility could happen. That would be huge. I still like to play some of my older 360 games. I would hate to think I have to keep my old machine around to still play those games if I got the XB1.

The same way that computers can play old DOS games now via the right program, it seems like that could happen with XB1 and 360 games.
