seriously we need to give this guy PT or maybe even give him a shot at the starting gig. Good hands and he has nice ability to finish around the basket and hustles for rebounds. it's time to unleash him mchale
I think Jones/Smith should be alternating minutes. Smith is better served as a big PF. A 2nd unit of: Lin, Casspi, Garcia, Smith, Asik
If only he could improve his defense. I really like him on offense, good hands and good finisher, actually plays the pnr.
did you watch rockets vs lakers game last year, where mchale had to put smith in instead of asik... result W
Did you pay attention all of last season when we were the worst defensive team in the league in the game?
well casspi isn't that much of a defender either. I don't see what the problem is with giving greg some minutes. He's a hustler (something that this team needs at the PF/C position) and knows how to roll to the basket and finish around the rim. Sure his defense really isn't all that good but he's not a liability out there either.
Casspi spreads the court. Why pack the paint if one of the player isn't even a good defender? You hurt the team's offense. Greg Smith isn't even a good passer to make it work.
Greg gives out guards another option to run the PnR with. He's good at rolling to the basket AND FINISHING so him hurting our offense is really overblown. He's a hustler and can be effective as an energy guy off the bench
Smith is inch taller, and a lot bigger lol. Espn has Smith listed 25 pounds heavier the Casspi but he looks like he weighs and least 40 pounds heavier. Anybody noticed ripped and huge Smith looks this season? He looked as big if not bigger then Howard when they stood next to each other.
And how is running a pick and roll efficient when there are 4 bigs (including the other teams) clogging the lane?
Because we have guards who are threats when coming off the pick n roll? If anything that'll give space for greg to roll to the basket. They did it last year with him, why wouldn't it work now?
I like Greg Smith and it's kind of unfortunate because it's hard to see how he fits on this team. I think he would be better as a bench big on a team like the Grizz where both guys he'd be backing up can knock down mid range jumpers to space the floor a little. Right now he's basically Dwight with no defense. That's good enough to get rotation minutes somewhere in the NBA, but not on this team. Hopefully he gets traded at the deadline, and hopefully we actually get something for him (at least a 2nd rounder).
Seriously. When we gave him PT against the clippers he did nothing but contribute. 12 points and 7 rebounds on 11 minutes while not looking so bad defensively. Apparently though, he's not worth playing because all he does is "clog the lane" and is the worst "defensive big in the league." Amazing.
