I will agree with you that the defense is a mess. But it's not going to get better unless there's some accountability. Whatever plan the coaches are putting out there, it's clearly not being executed. The problem with the NBA is that it is a players league and the only way you're going to get a defensive team is if the stars buy in 100%.

Lin, no. Harden, yes. I still think the best PG fit next to Harden is a George Hill type, good defender and spot up shooter (and no, Patrick Beverley is not George Hill, I also no longer think Bev is starting PG material). Hill's not a good playmaker, but he won't get in Harden's way either. Morey should look for a way to swap Lin/Hill. Indy benefits from this too because they have no other playmaker outside Paul George, and PG is only decent.

I think the OP wasn't talking about any alternatives to either guy. Harden and Lin being what they are as players were talked about as having potential to be a potent back court and at times were last season. What has coach McHale done to help or hinder their potential? It's not an argument who fits Harden best in the NBA, it's dealing with who we have and making the best of them.

LOL this is the NBA man, everybody gets beat. its not about getting beat, it about how you recover. they didnt switch and didnt hedge. they did nothing. that's the point. obviously some people (like lin) get beat more than others, but a good pnr defense isnt lost afterwards, that's the difference...

Bev's had like two starts, one for 10 minutes and the other with what I'm sure is a still very sore chest, which has to be throwing off his shot. You may be right about him not being a starter but it seems only fair to gather a bit more data.

no no no remember injuries have nothing to do with a players performance.

you can gather more data by seeing how average bev played against back up guards last season. For example, forget the 38 and then the 21 point performances lin had on parker and wipe them out because bev relieved lin on a night he wasn't feeling it.
apparently, that also wiped out the 24 point performance by lin against utah the previous game. eye tests are pretty bias. `

The 3rd leading scorer on a 4-2 team is a mediocre player. I guess the rest of Rockets are all garbage then  And Isn't NBA supposed to be the best basketball league?

Correct me if I am wrong. PB is doing even worse job in his limited playing time.

Although Beverley didn't play that well last night, that was the one thing he's always been good at doing, and still did effectively last night. I could practically see Nash's eyes light up when Beverley hit the bench and Lin came in, because they ran a million PnRs on Lin last night. When Bev is healthy again, I expect he'll play good defense again.

It's not impossible but the player would probably get a foul called or ejected. Sometimes one could get away with it but most of the time no.

No. Because Harden is at this time overrated.

You did not watch the game. Stop lying. For the last several games Lin's defense pnr and all was quite good.

This makes me sad. I mean, didn't we all not see the potential this pair had last year, in hardens first and second games as a rocket? They were more productive as a group before the coaches got involved! Lol.

And it wasn't just one game... Many games where they combined for over 50 pts and 20 assists.

With the right coach, prioritization, and most of all, attitude, it really could've been something. Calvin Murphy saw it... Clyde Frazier saw it.... It wasn't just a figment of fans' imaginations.

Lin's days as a rocket is far from over so I'm holding out hope for this pair to be able to work together. I mean, even Mchale alluded to it last year with his talks about harden attacking from one side and Lin from another, etc..

They showed tonight that they can play together, the ceiling is real high for these 2 YOUNG players, once harden ISO less, & Lin drives without stopping in the lane as much less forcing a bad pass, they will show that they can be one of the best backcourts in the NBA, the potential is there
