If you own more than 5 bottles of cologne you may have a problem. Personally I like Burberry/Burberry Brit
spot effing on, man. still my all time favorite cologne. other than that, though: - Chanel (bleu and allure) - 212 by Carolina Herrera - Burberry (touch and london) - D&G (original and the one) - Lacoste (essential) - Yves Saint Laurent (original) - Issey Miyake also, I still have some colognes from HS. never wear them, but they still smell good - Candies - Curve (original and crush) - Abercrombie (original and fierce) - Chrome
got a buddy whos an aficionado with this stuff. probably owns 15-20 bottles at one time and thats not an exaggeration.. me, i have one bottle of some stuff i got from gap, that imo smells great but i have never made a habit of spraying cologne before i leave. i want to make it a habit, i mean ive had the bottle for 6 or 7 years now and its still more than 75% full..
Lol.. they do cost a lot.. The 5 I have.. I paid $95 for altogether and they are all "real" lol... Polo Blue (I got for $40, Large size) http://www.ralphlauren.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12818036&parentPage=family ($90 bucks worth) Polo Black (I got for $40, Small bottle) http://www.ralphlauren.com/product/...grance_categories_poloblack&parentPage=family ($60 bucks worth) Armani Code (Free - uncle left it at my home and told me to keep it, it was full) http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/...oryID=48731#fn=sp=1&spc=25&ruleId=52&slotId=8 ($90 bucks worth) and 2 others that i don't even know the name of.. one is perry ellis and the other is some religious smelling one.. they should be worth up to $80 together.. got them for free. So basically I paid $95 for $320 worth of Cologne
And I never used to wear Cologne but the ladies love it... So now I wear Cologne.. I use one for School, another for going out for small events, and another for big events.
Not necessarily. I know a few people who have the means, yet can't understand the depths to which this field goes. In mainstream America, the sense of smell is not given the same appreciation as fine dining, or what the opera and symphony offer to the ears. **Americans selectively recognize certain passion and hobbies, yet casually deride others. They base it on mistaken notions of masculinity and conformity. Some own many pairs of shoes, some own many cufflinks and ties, some have several performance automobiles, and some own hundreds of bottles of quality fragrances. Smell is different from indulging in other senses because it's wrapped up powerfully with our memory. The collectors who own hundreds of bottles wear a certain scent for a particular mood, ingredient, occasion, and/or weather. Often, they layer them with other scents. Using combinations, the options are gargantuan. High-end perfumery is indeed expensive just like buying wine. If you visit Guerlain's boutique on the Champs-Elysées or Miller Harris in London, they will create a fragrance for you after a consultation lasting for several months for $40-60,000. In the Middle East, it's not uncommon to see $15,000 for 1 ML of a precious attar. There is a complex art to creating a scent from scores of costly ingredients. The goal is your signature smell. People will remember you by it. Through olfactory craftsmanship and sorcery, you may achieve immortality via your fragrance. The average person is aware of the effect good food or good visuals can have on our lives. They make life enjoyable. With the rise of the internet, I notice more and more people pay closer attention to their smell or ask me what I'm wearing. This would have been unheard of just 15 years ago. As the years ago by, I see this trend continuing. **This is only anecdotal. Most Western Europeans, Canadians, Koreans, and Japanese people either respect perfumery. Or, they shrug indifferently yet wish to learn more. It's only Americans or the English that will mock you or know exactly what you're talking about. Two extremes. The biggest collectors I know are all American lol. TL;DR The world of perfumes is vast. There isn't a simple rule for how many bottles to own or what smells good. You enter the door, and leave whenever. However, if you venture far enough, you'll never be the same again (in a good way). Sorry about your checking account.
True. The religion of Islam likes for one to be clean and smelling good. A lot of muslims love attar because its not only smells good but it helps the people be in good mood and relaxed to pray.
BTW, I used to be a 1 (max 2) cologne kind of guy... in the past few months since I've started this hobby, I'm now up to 30 full bottles (min 100ml not counting decants/samples)... yup, pretty degenerate.
So I finally got a sample of Tuscan Leather from Neiman today (they give 4ml samples!)... it's true, it REALLY does smell like cocaine. Not sure this is something I'd want to wear often, but it's uncanny how much it smells like blow.
the SA last time must have been holding out on me bc it def wasn't a 4 ml sample... today I got 4ml samples of Tuscan Leather, Tobacco Vanille, and Rive d'Ambre. smellsgoodman
Just blind-bought a cheapie from fragrancenet due to reading about it on basenotes... Samba Skin $15. Supposed to smell just like Pure Havane on top and dry down to a mix of Pure Havane/Tobacco Vanille. If it's even CLOSE to that, it should be a winner. For $15, why the hell not lol. (although the butt-plug looking bottle is kinda weird)
Just blind bought 'salvatore ferragamo'. Has anyone ever tried it and what are yalls opinion of it? Also thinking of getting black bvlgari. What are yalls opinion on that? Season, longevity, casual/formal, day/night etc. New to the cologne industry.
Never tried Salvatore Ferragmo... which one is it - there are a bunch? The one I see most often is 'F by Ferragamo', which seems to get decent reviews. Have you smelled Bulgari Black or will it be a blind buy? This one is NOT a safe blind buy as it is unisex (sweet, powdery enough that some people say feminine) with a really strong rubber note. I happen to like it, but I prefer Midnight in Paris (EDP) by Van Cleef & Arpels, which smells very similar except without that weird rubber note.
