Discovery Green park downtown?? You could go ice-skating in December. :)

Yeah it is. I live about 5 minutes from it in the upper Kirby area. It really hasn't changed a lot but upper Kirby definitely has. They have put a lot of good restaurants out here. If you like Mexican food go to El Tiempo on Richmond. I go there once or twice a month lol

Have you been to Del Frisco’s Grille in West Ave? The BEST hamburger I've ever eaten. It's not even hamburger meat, it's filet mignon. Perfection.

Not sure if it's still there, but old-timers might remember the Carrousel Motel at 610 & I45 across from Gulfgate. It had the big merry go round up top. You could have quite an eventful stay at that place.

My GF surprised me by booking a weekend getaway there this last weekend. Of course she knows me well and told me a day in advance. I flipped out and we were able to cancel the reservations. We freaking live in Houston and I wasn't going to let her spend $1,000+ just to stay there.

I'm actually going to surprise her by taking her to Singapore instead.

hotels: Either St Regis, Granduca or Zaza. The Hiltons are all very average (although the Hilton Americas downtown is the best of the lot...next to toyota center). Hyatts are OK, not great. Starwood's best in Houston is the St. Regis, followed by the Westin at Memorial City (big drop off)

restaurants: if you're dead set on Tex Mex, go to El Tiempo on Richmond or the one on Washington.

for leering at women at bars, I'd have to defer to others on that one -- probably one of the upscale places on Washington Ave I'd think.

Appreciate the offer, but I don't share that preference with Royce White ;).

For ATW, I'd recommend Saint Genevieve and Belvedere. They have a mostly younger and attractive crowd. However, I prefer a place like Zimm's because it more for lounging and conversing with a somewhat older clientele.

I'd think more like Roosevelt or the like on Washington.

St Gen and Belvedere tend to bring in a more African American crowd, right? (not that there's anything wrong with that, just may not be what ATW is looking for)
