Which hotel would you recommend for a night in Houston?

Looks like I am going to be in Houston for a night in December, more or less passing through (20 hours or so). Any hotel recommendations? Sadly, no Rockets game on that day (but I might catch one in California on my trip).

Have highest status with Hyatt, Starwood, Hilton. The Hyatt seems to be downtown, though, I don't think I want to stay there.

Also, if one hasn't been in Houston in...hmm...10 years? Anything new I should really go see?

    Thanks for any advice.

Check out the St. Regis. It isn't downtown but in a great area close to a lot of stuff to do in just about every category.

Funny, I was just looking at that - thanks for the advice. Booked it (they had Cash and Points available, too).

Lots of great hotels in Houston.

    Downtown:
    Four Seasons (my personal fav)
    Double Tree
Rice Hotel (very historic and great location right on the rail line)
    Hyatt (Houston icon)

    Non-downtown:
Omni (beautiful and hidden in a very quiet area)
    St Regis
Houstonian (more like a spa than a hotel)
Hotel Za Za (right in the middle of the museum district)

I think they destroyed that device that let you enter people's dreams at the end of that Deep Space Nine Episode. :(

Since you said, not downtown, I won't talk about Landcaster

I normally suggest other places, but for one night, I'd consider the Westin in the Galleria, because you are right in midtown (many great restaurants) and have a very convenient place to crash after a night out.

Plus, all the Christmas activity is centered around the Galleria.

For other "not downtown places" Omni and Houstonian are in midtown as well. If you want the try Montrose with some of the absolute top restaurants in town, I always recommend La Colombe D'or. A quaint hotel with unique rooms and a bar that's one of the best-kept secrets in Houston. The rooms can be quite expensive though, since there aren't that many of them. This is where a lot of wedding couples spend their wedding night.

btw: I'll be in Houston then, too. I'd meet you at the La Colombe D'Or bar.

I think I should have Tex-Mex. Almost 20 years ago, I liked going to Ninfa's on Kirby (?). Does it still exist?

That was an editing mistake. Was in my clipboard when I meant to paste Landcaster.

Do you like ZaZa over La Colombe D'Or. I haven't been to that place since the renovation and name change. What was it before...the Windsor?
