Keep Asik, trade Howard. Well, maybe not really, but I feltl like that last night. No heart, no intensity, no nothing. Very disappointed in this performance.

been critical of Lin in the past but he has been terrific this season, hitting outside shots, pushing the pace, staying agressive

If things were to surprisingly deteriorate even more, a Howard/Aldridge trade is intriguing.

If its true, its probably due to the mix up with him and Bev leaving Blake open for that 3. My guess is Lin was supposed to switch and didn't

This, for me, is pretty much a succinct but the most sensible post in this thread. A lot of blame to go around for this loss. It is too early to be delving into finger pointing this early in the season folks! If the OP is right then no one should be surprised, this has happened too many times before with the other teams with DH.
I was hoping, and still hoping, that DH would take advantage of this new opportunity with the Rockets and finally be the player that he could be. The season is long, let's all wait and see.

Lin can't switch if he's being held by Nash, which means the next person in the string is supposed to take next switch (in this case Dwight).

If Lin is on Blake originally and gets held, next person needs to switch.
If Lin is on Nash and is being held, next person needs to switch.
If Lin is switching and gets held/screened/picked, next person needs to switch.

Translation : It doesn't matter who Lin is on, as long as he gets picked/screened/switched, it's up to the next person on the string/rotation to slide over for coverage.

Since the only person free on that side of the court was Dwight, it was his job to switch. Dwight did switch, except that he was late to close, thus leaving Blake with an uncontested 3.

To be honest is ANYONE thrilled with our PG situation? I mean our PG situation is decent but it can definitely be improved. Dwight is just speaking truthfully.

It's no secret Morey is looking to upgrade the team and Dwight knows that. It's just a matter of time before the right offer comes along...

And to all you CyberX haters - GET LOST!

If you watched the replay the only one who could have contested the 3 was Howard. Lin was held by Nash so naturally Bev should have switched. He didn't but even if he tried Gasol would have him screened also. That leaves Howard to rotate to Blake. He did but it was a little late getting out there. It was a team defense failure, probably due to early in the season and not being well coach.

Have you seen cyberx in person? How do you know he's credible? You think the Rockets would be stupid enough to leak these kinds of information to an outsider?

Too complicated....let me break it down. If you're supposed to switch all picks then Lin hugging Nash is exactly what you wanted. Why should Lin decide on his own to fight over or through the pick when the orders from coach is to switch?? And Bev noticed immediately, how can he not if he's supposed to guard Nash?

That switch was fine....it's the 2nd switch between Bev and Howard. Did Bev yell switch? Should he even have to? I guess so since Dwight was in la la land just staring at Pau Gasol not realizing that was actually standing there with a purpose.

except the PG situation is not Lin and Bev it's a sitation between the combo of Lin/Bev and Harden.

that is the best explanation for what happened on the Blake 3.

now as to why that happened -- who knows? lack of reps? lack of communication? maybe the coach never emphasized the nuances of switching?

i tend to think it's the latter. you look at the parsons inbound to dwight, as steve kerr said, the coach has to have inbound plays for various situations. if you already know your top center has a FT shooting problem, shouldn't it be a priority to have crunch time inbound plays practiced so that the players can do it in their sleep?

in a span of a couple of minutes, in crunch time and on national tv, the two failures above speak volumes on the quality of coaching.

If Dwight makes just 1 extra free throw the outcome could have been different. 1 free throw!

this, Rockets defended perfectly, switched on both screens, just Dwight could not get out to Blake in time (he nearly did)

Dh12 was late. That was the issue. It really isn't a big deal it was just one play. The game was lost long before then.

One thing I have noticed that could be part of this:

Lin seems really tentative to pass to Dwight on rolls and cuts in the paint. I've seen it a number of times where Dwight has his arms up as if to say he's open and you can tell Jeremy wants to attempt the pass, but doesn't seem confident in making it.

Before anyone attacks me for dogging on Lin, I think he's been playing great so far this year when he's been attacking the rim. It's just a small thing I've noticed in how he plays with Dwight.
