This team has become an isolation ball team, every single player has performed worse than pre-season/last year except Harden, Lin, Howard. They are the only players on the team that can create their own offense.

The struggles with Parsons, Casspi, Asik, Beverly are all due to the fact that they need offense created for them. And we are not really creating good shots for them.

I the coaching mentality shift of placing Jeremy Lin in a "sixth man" capacity has had a huge effect on both him and the team.

Lin is more aggressive in creating his own offense. Even though Lin is doing well offensively himself, higher scoring and higher percentages, he is facilitating less, less assists and the team is suffering because less good shots are created.

I think the team will do much better if Jeremy starts at PG and is told to be more of a facilitator, his stats will drop but everyone else will look much better, especially Dwight and Parsons.

The current Rockets remind me of the Knicks, isoball heavy

    Melo is Harden,
    JR Smith is Lin,
    Chandler is Howard,

Lin should be starting and be PASS oriented (like last year). His stats will go up since we also have Dwight as an offensive weapon.

I'd like to see Bev close games, but he should not be starting and is a main reason why are assists are lower.

Well said. McSuccess thinks that Harden is LeBron, Howard is Duncan and Lin is Jason Terry.

Starting Beverly proved to be fatal. He is a much better off the bench PG. It's not all on him.
They all did poorly, but Lin should start.
    I am no LOF.

You know you don't get an assist for freethrow right? That's the main reason, heavy FT teams are always low in assists.

I believe mchale said in an interview that cassipi need to play with certain player to be effective. As for parsons...he should stick with shooting 3, cutting, fast break. Maybe then we wouldnt have thread like "Would you be willing to give up Parsons?" or "Who is the #3 Man Behind Howard and Harden?"

They can't create off the dribble, they can attack a closeout, which means that someone else created a mismatch that caused a rotation.

i.e. they can't create their own shot.

this is why this whole new starting lineup experimentation thing is so frustrating. last year's team, for the most part, moved the ball quite well, and everyone had gaudy numbers, and the team had high assist numbers. it was fun to see.

now after getting howard, we decided to try a whole new lineup, replaced the guy with the highest assists numbers (especially assists at the rim) with a defensive guy.

what's wrong with just replacing asik with howard and play the same way? you now have a guy with just as good of defense as asik, but with more offense. i don't get it. i really don't. and it wasn't like lin was complaining about his role last year; he was getting quite good at it towards the end of the year.

All he's saying is that we need a pg, a floor general, someone to create a team oriented game as many people have feared. I blame McHale 100%, Morey better get involved before Les comes down with the hammer! lol.

People are not as high on Lin as you are. In fact, they are quite low on Lin unless he beats people over the head with insane numbers. His numbers aren't quite there yet. When his stats get even higher, people will start noticing. It seems many posters are already noticing that you actually make a great point.

It's still early. I believe the assist rate will go up later in the season - when they figure out where everybody is on the court and learn how to throw Dwight some OOOps.

there's also less assists simply because they're slower this year, so fewer possessions. Plus all those passes to Dwight inside, you cant get an assist if he holds it, makes a few moves and puts up a shot.

Rockets rank 5th in Offensive Rating, last year ranked 6th.

Why is the number of assists important again? I think I missed that part.
