Ever heard of a thing called selective reporting?

Did you review Feigen's twitter timeline? If you did, you'd note that that was the only remotely critical thing he posted about Jeremy during the game. Everything else was praise for his good play. You have to take the good with the bad.

Fair enough, if you are only putting it in the context of Feigen. What I really meant was the whole reporting from the Rockets' media, especially Worrell and Bullard.

lol at everyone trashing Lin's shooting. Dude is shooting 53.3% (42.9% from downtown). His handles and decision making are fine also. Dude is only averaging 3 TO/game...compare that to Rose (5.3), Westbrook (4.5), Curry (4.4), Harden (4.8).

I heard repeated high praise for Jeremy from both of them last game. Loads of compliments. But I was also posting in the game thread as I streamed, and I noticed that as long as they were saying great things about him, all was well. If they said anything less than glowing, they were accused of disfavoring him. If they said anything even slightly positive about Beverley, they were accused of disfavoring him. Hell, some people got angry because they said it was good for the team to have Beverley back.

I can't really comment on what they've said during other games, as I've either been at the games or watching them out where I can't really hear the commentary that well... so I could have missed something.

Worrell and Bullard echoes the more rampant rhetoric in Clutchfans.

    Sample size be damned huh?

If you really believe the 9% increase in both overall FG and 3FG over last season to continue I don't know what to say. That's not to say that I think he won't be any better than last year. I expect him to have a higher percentage, but this much of an increase will be tough to keep up. He's been hot these first 5 games, but let's not make it out like this is how he's been shooting his entire career.

As for the turnovers you have to again consider sample size, but also minutes played per game. It's so early in the season that one really bad turnover game skews those numbers pretty bad, kudos to Lin for not having one of those games, but I don't expect those guys you listed to average those turnover numbers over an entire season. On top of that not every player plays the same amount of minutes so just comparing their per game number isn't an equal comparison.

Lins turnovers are slightly up from last season, but I'm hoping just like with Harden that as the season progresses and they both get into the swing of things that those numbers come down a bit.

Nothing against, your post. But way DRose is playing SO FAR this year, I think DRose is poor man's Jlin...

On serious note, give Jlin some time man, he played SG in college and only started PGs during linsanity/last year for us. He made the big jump from last year to this year and shows great promise. His decision making/shooting/defense all improved this year. Jlin is Rocket and we should be supporting him...

    Career

    James Harden: 44.3% FG 36.7% 3P
    Jeremy Lin: 44.3% FG 33.6% 3P

If Lin is such a poor shooter, then Harden is not that much better.

Where in my post did I say he was a poor shooter and I definitely didn't bring in Harden for comparison. All I suggested was that he hadn't suddenly turned into a Nash level shooter.

    Career

    Harden: .604 TS% .520 eFG% .842 FT%
    Lin: .542 TS% .485 eFG% .789 FT%

And that's with one guy being more of a priority on defensive game plans than the other. Saying Harden isn't that much better of a shooter is a little crazy.

You and so many are wrong on his shooting. His shooting has been excellent. He was always a good shooter inside the three point line. He seem to have extended that to three point line. His shot looks solid. We'll see if it hold up, but it has already been solid since all-star last year, through this year preseason and now through the first 5 games. His shot has been consistent for a few months now.

His handle is below avg for a point guard. BUT, I haven't seen a problem with this weakness at all this year. I like to see how he handle on-the-ball aggressive pressure to see if this is still a weakness of his. I think we haven't seen much of team pressuring Lin this year partly because Lin is such an elite driver so they play off him a bit.

His decision making is fine to me. He got good to great vision. His TO is largely due to his aggressive risky style, not poor decision. And again, I think we need the aggressive risky Lin, not the passive safe one. This year, so far, Lin has been somewhere in between... a good balance and sign of growth in his decision making.

Lin real weaknesses are his demeanor (lack of confidence, not playing to his strength, deferring.... entering his passive mode), his handle (to be seen if still an issue), his defense on small speedy guard (but we got Patrick to help here), and probably most importantly (and this goes back to his demeanor) - his ability to run the team, control the tempo, knowing when to attack, when to pass, and when to defer. But with that said, he's way ahead of last year in almost every areas, especially in his aggressiveness and confidence. Last year, when he make a bone headed play or throw up an air ball, you can see him shrinking in front of you. In the last game, after an air ball, he swishes the next 3 in without a hint of doubt.

I think this is spot on. Lin is a scoring PG, not a traditional PG. His strength is his athleticism. He's fast enough to get past other guards and strong enough to drive into defending bigs. His handling is poor for a PG. It's very easy to corner him and make him pick up his dribble. His court vision is good, but he tries to thread the needle on passes too much.

We can try and develop Lin into a good traditional PG with a couple more years of work, but is he even a long term solution to Houston? Why should we tolerate his average performance as a traditional PG if he's gone in 1-2 more years?

I think we should play him with his strengths. It will be beneficial for the Rockets in the short term and will increase his stock value for a trade. Put Lin in the second unit and tell him to be a scoring PG. He still jumps in the air with no exit strategy, so put T. Jones/G. Smith or another good finisher behind him as a bail out. Have Garcia out on the corner for spot up shooting and Asik for rebounds.

It is people like you who keeps doubting Jeremy that enables him to reach to the NBA. What makes you think he can't improve 9% from last Season? If he's already doing it now, what else do you need to say he won't sustain it?

Good points. There's a skewed perception of Lin as a player, by some on here, and his mistakes get amplified and scrutinised more than any other player. I think no matter how much he improves or how well he plays, Lin isn't going to convince these people he's any good, even if Lin posts Linsanity level stat lines again. Everyone's entitled to their own view so I don't have a problem with it.

I especially agree with the confidence issue you mention. If you compare Lin from his NY days to times last season and even this season, he's lost that swagger and assertiveness in his playing and decision-making. I think during Linsanity he played on instinct and it worked great and he never second-guessed himself. I guess with the confines of team strategy, at the moment, he might be overthinking things and worried about being benched for mistakes, and this might contribute to his indecisiveness and lack of confidence. Honestly, I think Lin should just play the way that feels best to him, especially if he's going to be chucked in with the second unit and play a little more for himself. A confident Lin is a totally different beast to the one Rockets fans have been used to.

    Lin is NBA quality

shortfuse3 proposes a good perspective though. The TOV for his "traditional" PG examples: Calderon (1.8), Nash (1.5), Blake (1.0), Hinrich (3.3).

The stats correlate with what we can see with your eyes. Lin is good and I like to watch him play, but at the current juncture, he is not as explosive as shortfuse3's top "non-traditional" PGs. He has better scoring, but takes more risks than shortfuse3's "traditional" PGs.

I like your game plan. This way everyone will be happier, except for a few posters who care very much whether Lin is a starter or not. This way Lin and Asik can stay in good shape with slightly less than 30 minutes for each. Asik and Lin should work on catching each other's passes. If they ever get there, Asik could be a Chandler-clone offensively.

bcos this organization promised so when they signed him. even the situation changed and plan can not go the way it supposed to go, it is still the moral obligation for this organization to raise a second best solution for the player's development. sure they can break their words and dump any player that doesnt meet their interest but let's see what happened after Yao/Tmac both end up miserably in their late career after been over used and dumped: a bad karma is built and NO star wanna come to play for rocket, until Morey landed dis-grunted Harden.
Now they are little bit more smart and hire some PR try to release some smoke and cover it up but when people can think ask the basic questions it just smell stink and those PR tricks stink it up more.
