My post should say "ever seen ON satellite" lol oh well.

Strongest in terms of Wind Speed and Barometric Pressure. They are comparing this to Super Typhoon Tip. Tip was much larger in size though. Unfortunately the JWA doesn't have recon so they have to make estimated guesses off of satellite loops.

Nope I am not. Born and raised Houstonian. My wife's mom is from Cebu Philippines though. I am also a weather nut so I always pay attention to these things. Mother nature is amazing.

Just amazed by that eyewall. I've never seen anything even remotely close to amazing as that in a typhoon or a hurricane.

Yeah me either. I am also quite amazed that it hasn't gone through some sort of eyewall replacement. Usually these strong storms do that but this thing has had an enormous and vigorous eyewall for quite a long time.

Incredible storm and wishing the best of luck to the Philippines. They have been hit by a few big storms in the last few years killing more than a 1,000 people each and I fear this will be worse.

I'm sorry to hear that and hope they make it through this. I wouldn't expect to hear much from the area until this has cleared out of there. Prayers go out for them.

This is amazing power and speed for a storm.

For comparison, here's Katrina's size and perfect eye at it's maximum speed. Very similar is size (30 mile eye/400+ mile width). Katrina had a 27.5 storm surge.

    Haiyan has set the record.

Video & Photos - Plenty more to come I am sure as the area is still feeling the effects of the storm.

Tacloban City is my hometown. All those pictures and videos are of that city. I pray to God my family's okay over there. Still no word from them.

I heard the death toll is at 1,200 but no one is sure because communications are down and also it is very difficult to get to some of the islands.
