I think if everything goes right we can still win the west even with this roster. As far as beating indiana or miami i'm not so sure.

Just my impression after watching a few games:

We are one player away which catapults us into the top group of contenders in the league(Miami, Indy, OKC, SAS).

We don't necessarily have to get a stretch four. A lockdown wing defender that can prevent people from penetrating the driving lanes who can also hit the 3 at a high rate could also be the niche that's missing from our lineup. I used to think this guy was Chandler Parsons, but his defense has progressively dropped off in first few years. This may be due to him playing a bigger role in the offense and having more duties handling the ball, but I'm not sure if that exerts a huge amount of energy to explain the drop in defensive capabilities.

A player like Luol Deng would fit this criteria.

Lets be realistic here, we have a good to very good point guard rotation in Lin and Bev. And elite two guard with a great shooting backup in Garcia.Parsons once starting hitting his shots can be a very good player and Casspi is a well rounded player. Then we have Howard at the 4 rotating with Casspi and Jones. at the 5 you have Asik and Howard with Smith as the insurance.

The only issue probably is the backup 4 spot because Casspi gets monster in the low block when he is playing the 4 but he can stretch the floor.

We have a good wing defender and his name is Brewer.

I would say Andre and Paul George but they aren't available.

Who cares what he thinks as the Rockets will be 5-1 after tonight with the best record in the West. And if the Rockets win it all Kerr will be like...Man the Rockets have two of the best defensive centers in the game, they are hard to match up against...to beat them teams have to find quality bigs...blah blah blah

Kerr is spot-on. He wasn't much of a GM; but he has the luxury of not being in that pressure-cooker now, so I don't hold his poor job performance (trading for an 80 year-old Shaq?!) against him.

We're built to win but this Twin Towers idea, as we've all discussed ad nauseum, only works when those players have specific talents. High-post passing and shooting, etc.

He does say "we're a work in progress". Translation: This isn't the roster that you'll see at the end of the year; and if it is, you probably won't see it for long in the playoffs.

Omer and DH12 are too mechanical to play alongside each other.

Never fear, though, Morey will come up with the right trade. For now they want to make sure DH12 is healthy enough not to have an overpaid, shouldn't-be-backup as his backup.

Totally agree about PatBev. He brings a hustle, energy , and abandon that is contagious and, quite frankly, for one reason or another, often lacking in our other guards.

He is one of the worst offensive players in the entire NBA. He doesn't count.

    That's the problem with this site, 1 non-complementary comment & you're a "hater". SMH

Overall it was a spot on assessment of the current Rockets team. I have some relatives in the Phoenix area & even there Sarver isn't all that well thought of. Kerr may get a pass for his stint there.

IMO, there won't be an Asik trade until near the trade deadline or next season if at all. By the deadline we'll have a better idea of how the Howard/Asik situation's working & who becomes available. If we can improve by trading Asik we'll do it then. If not, then we'll run the same evaluation at the end of the season.

He can play on situational basis. 5 to 10 minutes and 6 fouls if an wing player gets hot.He was one of the very few guys who could limit Tmac.

I cant argue with Kerr. But I think Asik/Howard can work together. Just not in this scheme. I can understand McHale not wanting to change the offense, but I feel like a different coach would, assuming these are the cards being dealt. If McHale thinks Asik will get traded then yeah, you just bide your time and let this run its course.

Otherwise... in order to get the most out of your lineup, you'll have to abandon (somewhat) the tempo and style of basketball that made the team successful in the first place.

So I'm not 100% sure McHale is managing the team correctly. But I also cant blame him.

Being an intelligent speaker has nothing to do with his ability to analyze basketball. I can't stand statements like this. Lebron is one of the smartest basketball players in the league, he's definitely not the best speaker

The Rockets have a simple goal, stay near the top of the standings until a legit four becomes available, but absolutely no fire sale on Asik.

    exactly

Exactly. His assessment is fair, but off. I look at this rockets team and look at the other "elite" teams out west, I think we are just as good as and maybe better than some of these elite teams
Clippers? Warriors? Spurs? Grizzlies? Thunder? They are all flawed just as we are.
Proof is in the pudding, gotta go out and get it done in the playoffs.

I doubt that we will win a championship with Asik on the roster either. I think Morey is basically holding him for ransom right now, waiting for Love or Aldridge or (insert talented PF here) to become available. Someone is going to pay a premium for Asik because he is an elite defender.

I also think he wants to take some time to see how the rest of the roster gels with Howard. Perhaps Asik won't be traded for a 4 at all, but rather packaged to upgrade at SF or PG.
