Wifes been on small business health insurance plan. $320 a month. Just got the letter today that they are discontinuing that plan because of the affordable health act and are now offering only a $510 month plan that is more expensive and crappy across the board. Hospital stays now cost $1000 per visit (up from $500). We now have to pay 20% of costs as well.

How the eff can they call this an affordable act when its more expensive across the effing board? Seriously eff this effing industry and the bs that got pulled in the senate to push this crap through. Only people who can afford this crap are the mega rich and the mega poor.

Pretty sure you can get a plan for way less than $510 a month on the health insurance exchange.

Can't you just go on the market and look for your own, cheaper plan? That's the whole point right?

Have you looked? You can get basic coverage for a family of 4 in Texas for that much.

I'm self-employed on on Blue Cross Blue Shield. Got notified that due to ACA fees my insurance is going up 5%. Seems like only going up 5% is good compared to what I've heard other people say.

Seems to me that if the higher cost bothered you so much that you would actually go and see what the market place exchange prices are online rather than just rely on what others are telling you is typical in NYC.

Is that the one that you have to pay 50% of hospital costs? I went through the exchange just now. The $510 month plan is a gold level plan. Our old plan would be considered a platinum plan by these standards. The old plan would cost over $600 a month. Unbelievable

$500 for hospital stay as a platinum plan? Ehh I would need to look at that more closely, that doesn't sound right.

    lol right?

"I know nothing about it and I've done absolutely zero work/research to help myself in that regard but this whole thing obviously sucks and everyone is out to screw me!"

Your damn right everyone's out to screw you - you're the easiest pickings out there.

why are you blaming the health insurance industry for complying with Obama's healthcare law?

an inability to make these basic connections is how Obama got reelected

Actually the insurance exchange rate for the plan (liberty epo uhc) that we got quoted in the letter is $655. And the people i spoke to was the folks from ehealthinsurance who we had gone through previously last year.
