probably would have passed if they didn't pick their own plan. knowing the rodeo and texans they pick the convention plan because they knew and wanted it to fail but not look like the bad guys.
Just wanted to stop in and say... You're an idiot. Bring up the monument? Great comparison!! Dumbass.
Officially done now. Sorry for those it meant so much to. I just couldn't agree to that kind of money for such a weak idea. A better proposal & I might have been on board with it. I'll still miss Astroworld more.
That probably would be more expensive than the convention center... also, not even sure if they can "deconstruct" the dome feasibly to its skeleton.
The dome was a dump by then. You would have been 9 when the scoreboard was torn down. I'm younger than you, I can still remember the scoreboard but it wasn't a special place to me. The dome was something special in the 70's not the 90's.
Maybe. I shed a tear when the family voted to take my Great Aunt Norma off life support too. What can I say, I'm a crybaby. I was sad when they turned the Summit into a funhouse for that swindling carnival-barker, as well. The fact that it's still standing but no longer what it once was is no different to me than if they razed it. Would you take all of your dead relatives to a taxidermist if you could?
For the folks whining about the waste of money, if 8 bucks a year personally means a lot to you, you probably have very little business even owning a home in the first place.
I think knocking it down will be harder on the budget than fixing it up. They have to raise all of the money in one year and can't use bonds. When it ends up costing 100 million to demolish, people might shed real tears they didn't renovate.
You could have done this with the dome and had a beautiful work of art and something useful next to Reliant Stadium... now you're going to have another massive parking lot you ****tard designers and planners.
How the hell is that the Astrodome any more than painting a roof-proportioned ring around the new parking would be??
I don't think they should make it a parking lot, I'd favor a beautiful park and maybe an outdoor theater of some sort.
Huh..? Are you missing the large building inside the ring -- aka the Palmer Events Center? If Austin had more money to spend on the project they could have kept the roof in addition to the ring. The Astrodome could have become a premier arts and concert center for Houston -- epic fail. Maybe they can build a strip center next to the parking lot -- a title loan type shop, a dollar general store, a chuck e cheese, a Vietnamese bling jewelry shop, and a Firestone should do the trick.
Yes, because the many other premier arts/concert venues in Houston are so booked up... Look, I know people are upset about the dome going... and there's a reason why its still standing unused for the last 12 years (partly sentiment, and partly because nobody wants to pay for the demolition)... but there really is no feasible use for it OTHER than it becoming a refurbished stadium (which this city doesn't need). The next good/feasible idea that comes with what to do with it will be the first.
No, I see it clearly. You want them to make a ring from the dome roof and put a little building on the edge of it. That would be so far from the structure of the done, that I don't understand how it would hold any nostalgic significance to you or anybody.
