Let's see...in this specific order: Harden's overall scrub game, refs with their insane calls on D12 and Lin, our individual D, help D, and also transition D, Mchale's lack of adjustments early on, TOs, missed dunks and layups, forcing bad shots. To be fair no amount of in-game coaching is gonna fix the bulk of the problems I just mentioned.
I agree this game wasn't McHale's fault. But I pose the question - how long of a leave pass does he have this season? I came into this season expecting the first couple of months to be ugly as we sorted out how to play, how to mix players together and how to combine a better defense without taking away too much of our offense. I believe if we're still running the same stupid iso plays come season end - and don't have any semblance of offensive movements much like the Clippers and how they free JJ so effortlessly - the off season needs to be spent finding a capable coach who can squeeze every ounce of potential out of this team.
I disagree Mchale has nothing to do with this. Mchale keeps playing Harden and having him not to do defense since last season. He was trying to cover Harden's weaknesses instead of making him improve by pairing Beverley into the starting line up. This will be ok with against some weaker team. But if we aim for championship, Harden's defense will cost us alot.
It will be bad coaching as long as McHale tries to force feed a starting lineup of Asik/Howard on the floor. They got outscored by the Bobcats 19-17, Jazz 24-16, and now the Clips 42-25. Only reason the Mavs aren’t listed is because Asik got in foul trouble the first minute of the game, and what do you know, the Rockets finally win a first quarter 38-22. this is part of the reason, we are playing this comeback once TT leaves the court and the comeback kid stuff Dam sure wasnt going to work against a team like the clippers on the road
so absurd. what, did you think we would go 82-0? McHale is a fantastic leader, and combined with our whole coaching staff (Sampson etc) we have great offensive and defensive minds. And, oh yeah, D12 probably would be in a mavs, lakers, or warriors uniform if we didn't have McHale as our coach (they have a great relationship). So, there's that.
How is McHale a good coach when he have no offensive sets besides shooting 3's and P n R? Did you see how Doc Rivers and Clippers offense tore us apart for easy shots? Nice ball movement, good offensive sets. FFS we could not even get the ball in bound of a timeout.
Apparently shooting 3s and PnR worked for us last season (and this season) offensively. We are averaging plenty of points per game. Is Tom Thibodeau a bad coach? Bulls offense is much more painful to watch than ours...Just b/c we didn't score 150 last night you think McHale is a bad coach? It's not McHale's fault the refs made it so D12 could only play a couple minutes in the first half. Or that James was thoroughly outplayed by JJ Redick. Or that Beverley (a player who would have proven invaluable this game) was hurt. We lost to one of the best teams in the league, on the road, in our 3rd game in 4 nights. Stop freaking out.
I agree. McHale played Lin way too many minutes last night. Lin was a -27 (worst on the team) while Brooks was a +8. Had Brooks played the majority of the PG minutes, the Rockets most assuredly would have won. I am sure you agree that McHale played Lin far too long last night - correct? After all, a good coach would have recognized how horrible Lin was and made the necessary adjustment - correct?
Don't even put Thibs in the same sentence as McHale. McHale preaches defense all the time and yet can't get his team to play an ounce fo defense despite having two of the 5 best defensive centers in the league. While shooting 3's and P n R is fine, it is not sustainable come crunch time against good teams. need to have some easy offensive sets in there esp off time outs
If we had Patrick Beverley, I would have agreed with you. And +/- in a single game is not a metric to analyze with.
I will give credit to mchale for the casspi development not many coaches would have put trust in him and gave him a shot at being a key PF. He would be sitting on the bench play garbage time behind parsons and garcia at the 3. He saw something in a player and figured out a way to use him at one of our weakness spots. the bad no offensive plays you have one of the most efficient SGs in the league and want to use him as a PG which affects him on the defensive side. Harden can be player like wade have plays that allow him to catch and shoot or drive once he reads the offense, you can have lin set these plays up. instead he wants him to play PG and ISO. WAKE UP mchale harden is not kobe/jordan... and howard is not dream/shaq you going to have to draw some plays up here !!!! you cant just dump the ball to them every offense play that’s not how this works
McHale makes a gutsy call to bench his star player in the 4th quarter because of his lack of effort on the defensive end, The team loses its first game of the year to currently the best team in the West on their home court, the team clearly lost because of effort on the defensive end, and some idiot bumps this thread???? Some of you are pathetic.
Credit for Cassippi should go to Morey. He is the one who spotted him and brought him here despite a poor year at Cleveland. McHale was forced to play Cassippi because Delfino was not here and Cassipi to his credit did well pre-season and continues to do well.
Lin & casspi were the most efficient players last night. He played good defense on CP until he got in foul trouble held him to 2 points in 1st quarter most of CP points came in garbage time when rockets were out the game, cp3 wanted to pad his stats and lin had 5 fouls. BROOKS had a solid game also but got to play with a hot casspi which woul make the +- numbers look better, lin had to play with TT for the most part. If you don’t know how TT can bring a +- number to a player see below please. & I see you been on CF since 1999 so I surprised to see a knee jerk comment like that after Lin clearly had a good game 30mins, 14 points, 50% FG, %50 3pt, 8 assist ypo cant make this kind of stuff up……. and the superstars HOWARD and HARDEn failed to step up. Once again see the TT production below if you want to talk about +- 1st quarter TT They got outscored by the Bobcats 19-17, Jazz 24-16, and now the Clips 42-25. Only reason the Mavs aren’t listed is because Asik got in foul trouble the first minute of the game, and what do you know, the Rockets finally win a first quarter 38-22
Credit for Casspi (its spelled CASSPI, not CASSIPPI) should go to Casspi. At the end of the day, he's the person who accepted the shift to the PF position, bought into what the front office & coaches were selling, and has really put 110% into this year so far. Also I dont think the coaches or the front office care about the credit either way. Both the front office and the coaches saw a role for him here, and he bought in and gave it his all..... who cares about which one gets more credit than the other.
I was trying to make a point to a Lin fan. They tend to never see anything negative in the way Lin plays. Lin could be 0-15 with 10 turnovers and somehow it would be Harden's or McHale's fault that the Rockets lost even if Harden was 15-15, with 20 rebounds and 10 assists.
