Thanks for the heads up. Was able to catch his interview. Nothing too interesting, mostly just a bunch of GM speak. He did say he plans to keep Asik and that right now they are happy and confident with the level of talent surrounding Howard and Harden.
No problem. You're correct, same-ol Morey speak. Great to be relevant nationally, again. If I find the link, I'll provide it.
Q: How important was 3-0 start? A: For Dwight's state of mind, it was good especially because of his past season with Lakers. Q: How much of blueprint did you have to change? A: Last year our goal was to make the playoff. This year having two players in arguably top 5, even though Dwight and James are young, championship windows is not open for long because of injuries. We are all in for this season. Q: What can Dwight do better? A: He's been very good. Overall, his presence makes difference in defense and offense. Q: How do you motivate Dwight? A: He doesn't need motivation. He is already in the gym constantly with McHale working on his game. Q: Is Asik in the long term plan? A: He is a starter. Asik will be with us. If you want to win it all, you need to have defensive presence. Having Dwight and Asik on the floor for 48 minutes is very important to us. Q: Does supporting cast in Houston what it needs to be? A: We are feeling pretty good about our guys. We have Jeremy Lin and Beverly achoring 1 spot and Jeremy's been moving to 2 spot quite often. Garcia is been playing really well and Cassipi has been stepping up for us. We have 8 players we feel comfortable. We like our depth.
Surprising that Morey said that Asik will be with the team. I have never heard him say anything definitive when it comes to trades, going as far to call players assets for the last 3 years. Should Asik feel safe now? I like Asik and I Love the Twin Towers I hope it works and he is a Rocket for the duration of the season.
"He is a starter. Asik will be with us. If you want to win it all, you need to have defensive presence. Having Dwight and Asik on the floor for 48 minutes is very important to us." In other words, we would have to get an impact player at the 4 to move him. A significant piece. We're not giving him away. If we don't get one hell of an offer, then we're keeping Omer Asik. (that's for DD, and my opinion, of course)
Agreed. I think Morey was getting message out to GMs around the league: don't try to make low-balled offers for Asik.
