I'm totally against this line of thinking. Teams taking the best (or highest rated) QB available. It's a very boom or bust position. You have to be absolutely convinced that they're going to pan out if you take one early. You can't go in saying "well, we need a QB early and since QBs #1, 2, and 3 have been taken, I guess we'll take QB #4." That's how you get busts. And rest assured, even though this is thought of a QB heavy draft, most of the names being thrown around probably won't pan out. If Case plays well, it gives us the luxury of not HAVING to draft a QB early. We can take one if we want if we're confident in them, but we won't feel obligated to because we don't have anybody the roster. It's like the Packers drafting Rodgers. They didn't need a QB. They had Favre. But they liked Aaron so they drafted him. They didn't "need" him, but they liked him and wanted him. It's when you flip that around, drafting out of a sense of the "need to draft a QB" over the want and belief in a particular player that creates problems.
Not just the line shifts... but how about when the Colts had Richardson out wide... and nobody saw him there... and the Colts solved the confusion by bringing him back to the backfield. The LB's and secondary of this defense just have low football IQ's. And they're not that athletic enough to have it make up for their mental mistakes.
Why does Keenum do so well in the first half and then flutter in the second? Could it be that teams "figure" it out and adjust? Will this be an issue going forward for every team? I know he's a rookie and still learning and its very awesome to see a mobile QB actually run and still make a pass.
Definitely agree. Teams are adjusting well to him as the game goes on. He's still better than Schaub, but that's going to be an area where progress needs to be made in order to consistently win games.
We ran the ball a lot in the 2nd half, mostly ineffectively. This put the team in a lot of 3rd and longs. Add in the fact that the primary playcaller was at the hospital, and well, there you go.
He was 11/17 for 148 yards (9/15, 118 yds before the final drive to get us in FG range) in the 2nd half last night. Still pretty good. We just didn't do as well on 3rd down. Still, we should've had 3 2nd half scoring drives but Fat Randy missed 2 FGs.
his first game he had no rb in the 2nd half. his second game his play caller is in the hospital in the 2nd half. yea probably those things don't matter.
As much as everyone likes to slam Kubiak's playcalling, it was pretty clear that it was the difference last night. 1st half with Kubiak calling plays - 21 points 2nd half with Kubiak not calling plays - 3 points Of course, who is to say that wouldn't have happened anyway - like the seattle game.
I'm not going to say Kubiak not calling the play had no effect, but we've seen a lot of what happened last night before with Kubiak there the whole game. So you can't really say that it wouldn't have happened had Kubiak not collapsed either.
I think it was mostly the fact we couldn't run the ball, yet kept trying to. I said to myself "we're going to regret that", when we didn't return that blocked FG for a TD... because I knew points were going to be precious to come by in the 2nd half (plus dough boy couldn't kick straight to save his life).. sure enough, we didn't convert.
I wonder if some of you are underestimating the mental effect of the team watching their coach collapse on the field. Yes, not having him there to call plays hurt a lot. But that emotional high of the first half seemed to drain away. Some of that can be attributed to the talent of the other team, some to the loss of the primary playcaller, but a lot, also, to just sheer....wtf-shock. I don't know how most teams would react, but ours is not a team with any margin for error. Plus, our kicker can't, uh, kick very well.
I want to chalk it up to Kubes not being there to call the plays, but we've consistently seen the Jekyll and Hyde situation when he has been there. The last time this team scored a TD in the 2nd half of a game was week 2 against the Titans. That's terrible.
Yeah, that's why I added that it probably would've happened anyway. That's Kubiak 101. I told my wife at halftime that we were going to lose this game. She called me pessimistic, but I've just seen this scenario way too many times. Tale of 2 halves.
Many chances yesterday. For example, when Luck was stood up by JJ, he was still attempting to throw the football, and Mercilus came and ripped the ball as the whistle blew...if the refs are gonna let a QB still make a play with his arms once a defensive player has his feet locked, then the play shouldnt have been ruled dead so prematurely... A chance at 2 blocked punts...Prior to the "blown roughing the kicker play", McAffee was running around trying to make a play after a bad snap... The Texans special teams missed out on yet another opportunity to punish the Colts... Then Brahman completely missing the ball on a block attempt was pathetic... How about the pass that JJoe shouldve had in the Colts endzone from Andrew Luck. Those are 3 Turnovers/ defensive plays that the Texans shouldve had...but did not make
the texans need to think about drafting a faster db in the draft...our dbs are always getting burned..jonathan joseph. he played soft coverage on ty hilton to not get burned and he still got burned..wtf
