i really dont see how the bolded are really glaring weaknesses.. swearinger looks good, another year with manning, and keo is serviceable. the way weve been able to find rbs from nowhere that seem to fit doesnt really have me worried, our star was a udfa, tate was a 2nd rounder and guys like forsett have come in and made an impact. as far as TEs go weve really missed a big blocking TE like dreessen, you could probably find someone like this late.

kickers really arent a big deal, we could find a few to come in and pick up one that wont screw every opportunity..

if keenum turns out to be the real deal then they should use the first 2 rounds to get talent in clear weakness areas. pass rush, oline, corner. schaub has to have some value that someone would offer a 3rd or 4th to take some gambles on players that fall for whatever reasons.

Backup rb will be a huge weakness because Tate is gone. Safety play is weak. Teo missed at least 3 open field tackles. Turns a 5 yd play into 20 yd play. Graham has decent hands but it would be nice to get one of those athletic te who can break a tackle or two.

Cutting arian after the season will save 1.25mil in cap, but carries 7.5 in dead weight. If they do it in '15 they will save 4mil in cap and carry 5mil in dead weight.

Clearly, it will happen 1 of those 2 years so it's not worth mentioning '16.

I guess it all comes down to what bob mcnair wants to do...
    1) retain kubes/smith and stay the course
    2) retain kubes/smith and rebuild
    3) fire kubes/smith

I think arian survives #1, and gets the axe if 2 or 3 occurs. If the texans choose to rebuild, which is a realistic possibility, the first step is creating cap room. I believe if they decide to go that route, they need to do it all at once so '15 cap space is large & in charge.

Can we even cut or trade Schaub to free up cap space? I was under the impression we would still take a huge cap hit and that the team that traded for or signed him would pay a minimum amount of his salary.

No. Cutting or trading players him leads to a cap HIT.

They may have to do it just to get out of the overall contract, but that will be 10 million dollars of the salary cap not going to a single player.

But that's a battle fighting cap hit, so it's not as bad.

Draft and immediate solution that I could recommend:

A solution for the Texans Secondary...move Kareem Jackson to the FS(cut Reed ofcourse in the offseason). Kareem is a pretty decent tackler in space, but lack elite speed...Same with JJo. I think its time to move JJo to 2nd corner spot...

    Draft Order:
    1. ILB
    2. QB backup
    3. Corner
    4. OLine
    5. DLine
    6. DB
    7. RB

It depends on how high we are picking. Hell if we tank then by all means we need to draft a guy like Clowney if he is there. That skews the remainder of your draft. If we're in the middle of the draft instead, then that's when you would be looking more towards ILB or RT in the first. Brennan Williams with his microfracture sure sounds as though he'll never play a down in the NFL. Rick Smith really did a bang up job this year picking so many guys who will never play a down for us. Good job man.

Iono but there are a bunch of holes in all the donuts bullock is eating.

    O lineman pick 1

    Olb pick 2

    Best qb available pick 3

Grab any linebackers with a pulse in free agency.

    Fire Marciano

Move brooks Reed inside and draft an OLB. Cut Schaub. Bullock is an obvious cut today and bring in kickalicious, give something for the fans to watch rather than this dumpster fire.

Watt needs an extension and Jackson will likely command more money than we think.

Draft OLB, RT, CB, S, ILB, RB

I don't care what the passing stats say..this team needs at least one legit CB and one safety..either through draft or free agency.

Need help at the linebacker spot.

Use first round pick on one of the QB's available.

Pick up a kicker...but DO NOT use a draft pick on that.

Need help on the OL. Draft someone who you think might be a solution at right tackle.

Just how many holes do the Texans have? Enough to give me the chills and goosebumps just thinking about it.

I'm hoping for a high pick so we can draft Jake Matthews. Aggie connection and the fact that he's from Houston gives an extra thumbs up in my book.

As has been demonstrated many times, the difference between a very bad team and a good team can be one offseason and a few breaks.

We still have the rest of the season on Keenum. He's looking pretty freaking solid though.

Cut Schaub, Joseph, Reed to get the financial house back in order. Foster too if he can't stay healthy. Let Tate walk and plug in a new RB.

New coaching staff, and one good draft and this team can be good again next year.

Let me move the goalpost on this thread. Other than the QB, and kicker,
which position needs an upgrade the most?

Cut: Matt Schaub, Ed Reed, Fat Randy, Joe Marciano

    Maybe Cut: Owen Daniels

Let Walk: Ben Tate, Antonio Smith

    Maybe Let Walk: Wade Smith

Draft Priorities: ILB > DB > QB > RB > TE

Free Agency Priorities: K, DE, ST Coach

The biggest needed upgrades in order are: (excluding QB for this discussion because we don't know yet)

    1) OLB/Pass Rusher- This fixes so much for the defense. It can't be an interior guy like Watt, you need a guy who is a true speed rusher from the edge. That helps free up Watt and it shortens the coverage time for the secondary.

2 & 3) 2 OL: You need to upgrade the play of the offensive line. Teams just have no problem disrupting the QB play if they blitz.

    4) DB: It doesn't matter really if you go safety or CB here because of the way we play, but basically you have to get better at either second safety or 3rd CB. They play too much in the league now.

They have to see if either of the lineman from the 2013 draft are salvageable (Williams and Queesenbury).

The biggest surprise of last night was that it was the best this O-line has looked all year... I was expecting Mathis to kill whoever he was up against (D. Brown, included). Harris got more reps than other games, and did well with them.

Linebacker is the bigger issue, IMO... especially with Cushing being a question mark no matter what happens with his recovery. Out of Brooks Reed, Mercilus, Mays, and Sharpton... not one of them is an elite pass-rusher, an elite run-stopper, or an elite ball-hawking coverage guy.

LB's are the most important facet of Wade's defense, and he has not a single one that would be starting on any other elite defense.

That was supposed to be Merciless. Pass rusher drafted in the 1st round. 10 sackes in 24 games is unacceptable. Not sure why he always gets a free pass. I even heard Colinsworth saying what a great year he's having this year.

You play OLB in Wade's system, you should be piling up the sacks DeMarcus Ware style.
