Thanks Nike, I would agree with your point about Parsons, Garcia and Casspi. It gives McHale a tremendous amount of flexibility and can cause big time match ups when you can play all of them at the same time.
It is if you factor in the talent level of the opposition. Two bottom seven teams and Dallas who may not even make it to the postseason.
I think it all depends on if he can maintain 40% from 3pt line. He has been an exceptional player driving the ball to the basket and finishing but he has been a 40% or close to 40% 3pt shooter since about last February. I agree that shooting 90 from the free throw line looks like a huge obstacle for him but he has shot in the 80s.
There's a B2B on the Left Coast to finish the first week. Neither opponent will have played the night before they play TheGoodGuys. One week = 6% of season's schedule. In 4% of the season's schedule. I hope OC gets one more night off to heal and to get ready for the B2B.
And you are probably right. That is what my lying eyes told me, but the SportVU data did not back me up.
The Good: This team has SO MUCH POTENTIAL for improvement. Our ceiling hasn't even been approached yet. The Gooder: We're STILL winning games in spite of the learning curve. This season has all the makings of a championship one, friends.
One explanation is that Howard had spent quite some time chasing opponents' stretch 4s, while TT were in play, leaving Omer in the paint for more rebounds.
With his present style, Lin takes too many hard falls and shots to the head to shoot 90%. From personal experience, you are disoriented after getting crunched, and it throws off your first free throw, though you can usually recover by the second. As Lin ages, he might alter his game to take fewer hits, which would give him a better chance.
Great summary of team after one week. I'll take 3-0, especially how much the team has struggled with turnovers. Lot of area for improvement. Hard to get much practice in when you play 4 games in 5 days, and players are already hurt. One more on the good side: Team chemistry is still good. Winning helps team chemistry.
phily is 3-0 as well. With wins against heat and bulls. Anyway, always more fun to be cheering on a winning team. Still a few rotation issue. Its too short for my liking. Already playing too much minutes of Harden. AB0. Other than that, its all good.
Jonathan Feigen @Jonathan_Feigen now James Harden and Jeremy Lin are second and third in points scored per game on drives.
Agreed with almost everything you said. I know it's clunky right now, but I think there's value in working on a half court game with Dwight now, especially against these weaker opponents. We need that wrinkle for the playoffs. In the meantime, this team is incredibly diverse and has all kinds of amazing rotation possibilities. Personally, I think Jeremy and Casspi have been my favorite bright spots. Lin has looked great in attack mode, and I'm looking forward to him getting more of this opportunities with the second unit. Definitely concerned about the early injuries. The schedule isn't very forgiving from a rest standpoint, either. Lots of back to backs, and it'll be a while before we have 2 days in a row off. Nice to see Jones getting some time, though. Maybe as more people get comfortable with each other more of the bench guys will be able to get spot minutes to relieve some of the wear and tear as the season drags on.
Yeah I thought in the very short amount of time he was in the game he played very well. He challenged Favors when he was on defense and looked fluid when he scored his basket. TJones definitely looks better at PF to me than DMo.
Amazing analysis (do you have a paying job?). You must have copious amounts of free time. Anyway, I largely agree, but expected less in the early part of the season. Besides the nagging injuries, the "getting to know" you process is going to take months not days. So far, they have exceeded my expectations. I repped you, you deserve it. Not that you need more green blocks….
Getting Dwight has lit Omer up. They both came out in the 3rd qtr engaged. Problem with Dwight is that he's just a finisher--nothing more. He misses bunnies, turns it over on the catch or in the post. Again, he really sucks on offense.
Great thread. Great read You know: even though emphasis is on improving the defense, so far (according to the sportsvu data) we have the best lane penetration stats in the league. By far Lin is #1 in the league for team pts based on his penetration and both Harden and Parsons are scoring at >70% on drives. Greater than LeBron I'm so excited
