Was 25 the minimum before? I'm a student so I got prime for a discounted rate.

    25 dollars.

Even prime members should be a little concerned with this change.

Recently Amazon has changed some of its lower priced items to "Add on items" which means they are not eligible for prime shipping unless your order reaches over $25. Now you have to be at $35 or over to get 2 day shipping for those smaller items (at least I am assuming this is the case).

    This does irk me.

Is their goal to become Best Buy?

They might be just making up for the stupid new tax rules state chain stores have pushed onto the company.

At any rate, I still consider Amazon the premier online shopping service, and since I have a Kindle and Prime, it also serves as an entertainment center as well. I can't see myself ever dropping Amazon no matter what crazy schemes they have to get me to pay more.

Oh, no wonder my recent order of 29.99 wouldn't give me the option for free shipping until I added a spare set of headphones.

Thought it was something wrong with my order.

    It was inevitable.

No tax, free 2 day shipping and easy returns made Amazon my #1 choice. I am not so sure I'll re-up my prime

Except Amazon had been doing a good job fighting that off, but they decided to cave, because they want to flood the country with distribution centers and offer same day shipping - or something like that. It's a significant increase, and it will mean fewer Amazon purchases for me.

Considering the loss they take on shipping small items for free, it makes sense. How many years has the minimum order amount for free shipping been $25? How much has shipping costs gone up in those years?

Not that it affects me much since I do use Prime, but I have found myself shopping less and less at Amazon since the introduction of tax. Also, their pricing isn't always the cheapest nowadays. I still use them as a reference since they have arguably the biggest online catalog, but the days of Amazon being the forefront of low prices with no shipping costs are gone.

I'm buying more electronic things from out-of-state now to avoid tax and they offer free shipping, too, especially since they are usually larger, more expensive box items. But to avoid the 8.25% tax on a $50+ item, I'd gladly wait.

I just checked, I placed 47(!) orders through Amazon this year. 3 were less than $35. I already have Amazon Prime. It won't affect me much.

The convenience of having stuff delivered to me, instead of driving to stores and the hassle of shopping is worth it to me.
