It's mid-December, Wade gets injured for the season, Heat seem destined for the 4th seed and a 2nd round exit, James makes noises he may opt-out in the summer. Would the Heat contemplate breaking the Big 3? Would they trade James if they thought that team has run its course and James is on his way out? What team could offer the best package for Lebron? Would Asik-Parsons-Lin (or whatever asset we can get for Lin from a third team that the Heat would like) be enough? If Lebron is suddenly in play what would you be willing to sacrifice. Bearing in mind that it could end up being a half-year rental, which teams would bid for Lebron thinking he would stay?
Purely hypothetical thought, but with the emergence of Anthony Davis... Would anyone do a trade of Howard + Parsons for Davis + Gordon? I would really consider that. Move Davis to PF and Asik as center, then Davis can get some time at center as well. Parsons is due for a raise, and Gordon could be a super sub with Garcia taking over the 3 spot. Davis has a nice jump shot and provides elite shot blocking and rebounding. Just a random thought.
In a vacuum, perhaps. But in real life where player are actual human beings, no. If you trade away Howard so soon after you spend all this effort convincing him that you want to win a title with him as an anchor only to use him as a trade asset several months later, you are never gonna have any credibility recruiting any future free agent stars. Besides, the Hornets will never give up Davis for a sure-to-be disgruntled Howard.
Hinkie is having a hard time figuring out this whole "tanking" thing. Let's help him out. Why the Rockets do it: Hawes can play PF/backup C, he isn't quite the defender Asik is, but he's not bad and spreads the floor much better on offense Turner is a strong defender, can play three positions, can handle the ball, and knock down the three. He'd be GREAT off the bench for us and we could often play small ball with Turner at the 3 and Parsons at the 4. We'll end up going deep into the tax extending these guys, but adding two guys who should end up as borderline all stars should make us contenders for the conceivable future. Omer is better than Hawes by a LOT. Garcia is a super role player, Turner is completely redundant imo with Harden and Parsons. The only way Asik gets moved (sacrificing 48 minutes of stellar D) is if the Rockets can get somewhere near a superstar, which is really what an elite defensive C is worth now a days (they are way too hard to find).
How do you add exceptions to trades? I can never do it. Also, its a no for me. You get a really good backup in return, but Turner isn't enough. He's a role player on this team. They both are, no matter how good they are doing in Philly. Not to mention Garcia is an integral part of our success and a good to great role player for us. Plus we lose a talented skilled young big man. Also our must recent draft pick. Too much give up and not enough return. Maybe for mcw though, he's been balling.
I don't agree that Asik is better than Hawes by a lot. On defense yes, but Hawes is a MUCH better offensive player, so it balances out. Get Hawes and Turner is a superb return for Asik IMO. Turner is looking like Iggy + threes lately, and Hawes is just about at Asik's level as an overall player. The minutes would play out like this: Lin/Bev both around 28 each Harden 36 Parsons 34-36 Turner about 30 mins off the bench Casspi and/or Jones about 20 off the bench Hawes 30-35 Dwight 30-35
But it doesn't fix or current situation of two great centers and now pf. Turner is a backup on this team, and a good stretch player for small ball. But not the missing ingredient. Hawes gives us the same TT conundrum. Plus they both expire this year, leaving it as a, this year or only type trade.
I think we should try to trade Asik for Serge Ibaka....he would reinforce paint protection and he can hit a shot from mid range... i think he would play much better alongside dwight. Also, IMO he is a much more realistic possibility than getting Love or LMA.
I'm surprised that no one is suggesting Lin for Lawry? Lawry aint happy, Lin is controversial, Toronto aint going nowhere in yrs and should be a dream home for Lin, win-win for Lin and the city.
No, if you want somebody from Cleveland, that would be Anderson Varejao. Trade him for Asik and you're all set. Not as good rim protector as Omer, but very good rebounder and runs the court well. He doesn't have much of a shot, but he would be a true Dwight's backup. Anthony Bennett is a rookie who came from a long injury. He is nowhere to be ready for Rocket game.
