He is not terrible, but he drifts, he is a ball watcher, and instead of playing sound defense and sticking to his man, he roams around in the passing lanes, it is a high risk, high reward defensive mindset.

He is still young in his NBA career. You want him learn through his mistakes by trusting him and not throwing him under the bus. If the team keeps wining before PB's return. I doubt McHale will change it.

I always believe you want to have multiple play makers in the game as it makes the offense so unpredictable.

ball hawking defense is also a high risk, high reward defensive mindset.

Lin can still play with Howard in the 2nd half just like he did tonight. Plus, PG is probably the least important position on the roster right now. Lin bringing that scoring off the bench will be huge.

and playing sticky defense like Beverley leads to quick fouls. Both styles have their pros and cons.

Lin's D has been visibly improved this year.

If you don't see that, you probably just don't like him that much.

i am starting to think it's a team thing the drifting. Last season all our three guards over helped on the imaginary oppossing hall of fame center they played including future hof'er hamed haddidi. And this season, they all still do it.

Because it is simply a hypothesis. If the team is winning (the reality) and Lin plays good defense, would you change it? I doubt it. Reality vs. hypothesis. You'd rather risk winning to test your hypothesis? Not to mention that it makes tons of basketball sense to have two attacking guards and play makers to set the tone of a game, especially with Lin's improved 3 pointers and defense.

Well overall so far Lin's D seems to have improved from last year.
And he actually played well tonight in the second half of a B2B today.
Hopefully the work he put in the offseason on 3pm will show on the floor this season.

jvg's defense always emphasizes team defense, including help defense. he also emphasizes staying in front of your man. personally i like jvg defense strategy alot.

jvg doesn't really enjoy risk defense. it's reason he likes battier very much.

One odd thing I've noticed, and I don't want to start a thread because Lin threads eventually always degenerate, is that Lin is getting his own shot more rather than facilitating. Perhaps this is a new mentality that McHale instilled because of him coming off the bench. Regardless of the reason, I like it. Lin is a skilled scorer. So he SHOULD be looking more for his shot. There's no reason to pass to a teammate if his shot is less efficient than yours.

Anyway, interesting to see if this trend continues.

Everyone likes Battier. If the Rockets somehow traded for Battier tomorrow, he'd be our stretch 4. :)

Why is that odd. Linsanity was born from that type of play. Any coach would be stupid not to allow him to use that part of his game. He has to move the ball around also and he needs to quit picking up his dribble and turn over the ball so much but he is second to Harden in the ability to create a shot. He will only get better a that.

And who will provide that consistency? Beverly who has started a total of 5 games in the NBA?

That's not true. Bev is a good complementary player and we could score with either on the floor. The question is who's better for our team and you can't shut down that debate just because you feel a certain player is better. The season is early and I know McHale will experiment between them and we will be able to watch and dissect who indeed has more impact. Either way, I think we're good as Lin hasn't exactly gotten the starters up and running as some us had expected.

Yeah we added a center that requires a pg that can penetrate and pass even more. What's your logic there? So if we didn't get Howard you would've been a vocal advocate for Lin to start? I don't think so.

Obviously watching the game, you can see that despite Harden offensive prowess, you still need another guy that can create offense for this team or they're going to be in trouble. Howard still doesn't do much for the offense beside turnover the ball and Asik obviously does nothing. So Lin is needed for the starting lineup. Beverley might work but i don't know whether there will be a drop off in offense.
