I agree with everyone and it is not excuses for McHale. You want to rest your stars as much as possible. Our bench is deep and is expected to close out the game against another teams bench. Our bench however didn't, and the fact that Crowder got hot hitting 5 3's made it close, but seriously that will not happen often. I am happy the starters rested a bit more, and we got the W. Had we lost it would be a different story, but we didn't so let's move on.
I never said that he should have sent the starters back out, I said that he should have waited before he took them all out at ONCE! He could have taken out maybe Howard and Harden and let the other guys stay in for a couple of more minutes to insure the win. To replace ALL five guys with 5 cold guys sitting on the bench? I don't see how so many of you guys see this as a smart move but claim to have been watching basketball your whole lives.
Typical trap move by the other team is to do something like this and take a lot of 3 pointers to make up a difference quickly with a cold unit coming in from the other team. McHale fell for it. Again, he could have taken Howard and Harden out, but he should NOT have subbed the WHOLE freaking team that was in with 4 minutes left to play and ONLY a 17 point lead. I can't believe how many of you guys haven't seen leads like that disappear regularly in NBA games.
I doubt this. Please name a few. And also weigh that against all the games you've seen where a team was up by ~17 with 4 minutes remaining and won (probably don't remember those too well, eh?).
That's not the point and your sarcasm actually sucks. A coach never or very rarely sticks in his ENTIRE bench at one time. Usually you give your starters rest in cycles so that bench players are always playing with some of the starters to keep some leadership on the floor. I will say it again even if the whole board disagrees with me: McHale made a BAD DECISION by subbing out all 5 guys that were in at the time with 5 cold guys off the bench and that COULD have cost us a game, although it didn't. He should have at most just taken Howard and Harden out until about 2 minutes left with a minimum double digit lead.
It was the right call as we have back to back. I think it's silly that in 2013, when only a couple of teams play on thursday because of tnt, that we would still have back to backs.
I'm not a stat guru, but I'm sure someone can look it up for just last year's games alone in the NBA. Which site is best to use to search for things like that? I know, from just watching the NBA, it has happened many times, or coaches end up putting their starters back in to secure the game ultimately. I'm just stating that I believe McHale made the move 2 minutes too soon. Teams regularly score 30 plus points in a quarter sometimes, so asking to make up a 17 point deficit in 4 minutes without Asik or Dwight on the floor is not unrealistic.
Seemed weirs, but after I gave it some thought I realized that we have back to back games and 4 in 5 games soon. He wanted to rest them because of this, I think/
Here's a thought, if you only like discussing great things during a win, and don't like constructive debate, try not logging onto a message forum for debate.
If you have no quality to add to the discussion, you can also just not comment instead of making a stupid comment. Try to add value to the board through valid points, because you fail as a comedian.
My sarcasm sucks, your posts suck, but in the end the Rockets won and were able to give the bench guys some minutes. No reason to get all worked up about it.
Your post make no sense... We won the game! Mchale coached the team to that win. And he has coached this team the past two years far past expectations! The fact that you were saying he made the wrong coaching decision like it was a fact instead of your opinion is silly. So I had a silly response!
You obviously would take Howard and Harden out because they're the stars and most important players to protect. Parson was playing the PF position and not even doing that good this game. Also given that's the position we need to get young guys experience, that's the one you taken out. Lin to Brooks is probably the smallest difference in drop off in terms of talent/game experience so that's also an easy substitution to make. Garcia is probably the one guy that I would've left in, but really I don't know if Garcia himself would've made a difference. 4 games in 5 nights, why wouldn't you make the substitutions?
The post is valid, and your sarcasm still sucks. Yes, we got the win, that I am grateful for! Rockets first! But just like we criticize every player on the team and what they need to improve upon, I don't understand why some of you posters feel it is so degrading to point out things that McHale does wrong. We almost lost a game last night due to a "rookie" type coach decision. I'm not worked up about it at all like you say. I am merely making valid points about problems I have seen from him over the last two years, and what I saw in the game last night that to me was still a very bad coaching decision, although it didn't cost us the game. As I said in my first post in this thread, hopefully McHale learns from it and doesn't make that mistake again in the future. I believe that we will have a lot of leads this year going into the final minutes of games. He shouldn't let other teams back in those games by sitting our entire starting unit TOO EARLY. Just sit your superstars if they need the rest. What makes many of you guys think McHale is above criticism and debate, but everyone else including Morey and Les are?
I thought it was a strong showing of trust in the bench players. And at some point in the season our bench players are going to have to take on bigger rolls for a game or two for various reasons. So might as well try to lift there confidence and increase bench morale.
