The sad thing is if no weapons were ever created people would still be killing each other with rocks and fists.

The problem isn't guns, it is human nature. Ticking time bomb.

It takes much longer to kill 30 people with your fists than with an automatic weapon.

He was quoting an asinine statement...I think that gives him the right-of-way for an asinine reply.

Yeah! REACTIVE security - that'll work!

Sorry some folks got hurt but this "security" is a gigantic pile of wasted money and time.

Both statements seem valid to me. Some people disagree with the idea that the world would be safe without automatic weapons.

There have always been twisted maniacs in the genepool, even before we all heard about them on Twitter.

TSA needs to step up security even outside the airport before entering to prevent something like this from happening again. Like maintain a perimeter of safety from a few miles away. Once you clear it, you are allowed to reach the internal security measures which are already in place now.

Why stop at a safety perimeter of only two miles away from the airport? I say all people should be covered in kevlar vests, bubble wrap and cloves of garlic to prevent harm *by law*. The next phase is to construct all building and cars from the substances that are used to create the black boxes on airlines. Open your minds, people!

Well, if you're talking about absolutes, then sure. This would be true. But I think it's hard to argue that a person can kill as easily or efficiently or in mass quantities with a fist than with a gun. Except of course if you're Bruce Lee or Chuck Norris.

23 is the classic onset age for a lot of major mental illnesses. So sad, and despite what others are saying about him, the warning signs were probably all there. Ugh.

Thoughts are prayers to the slain TSA guy and his family.

Why not just start at everyone's front door? NSA has it covered inside, TSA will escort you to your destination. Everyone wins!

ironic that an anti-TSA/anti-police lunatic MURDERED a TSA agent, and the same folks are sitting here going off on TSA and airport security.

    So here was the scene...

shooting occurred around 930am PST I believe?

I had a 5pm flight out of LAX. I left for the airport from DTLA around 2pm to be safe

Traffic is fine until we get to viewing distance of LAX. Cops had shut down all the exits and we were in wall-to-wall traffic. We passed a cop and I stopped him to ask what the situation was. He informed me that the LAX grounds were shut down indefinitely. Planes were still taking off/arriving, but no one was allowed in our out of the airport.

I called my airline and they said my flight was still scheduled to take off. I informed them about the airport situation and was essentially told "not our problem." Priority Access customer service indeed.

The cabbie says the best he can do is drop me off on the side of the highway. I get out w/ my 2 rolling bags and start walking along the highway to hop over an exit ramp (hundreds of people were doing the same).

I sit down under a tree along the road as do hundreds of other people. I am following LAX's twitter on my phone to get updates on the grounds. I call my admin and ask her to book me a hotel room nearby just in case I don't get on my flight. I then walk to that hotel b/c I assume if the airport opens, I can get a cab from a hotel to the proper terminal. If not, i'll spend the night.

I walk a mile to the =hotel and talk to another cop. He says that they are allowing foot traffic to enter/exit LAX from Century Blvd. I ask how far that is? He says "VERY FAR. don't bother"

I check on my flight and its delayed until 630pm. I realize i have several hours, and i'm from a walking city, so **** it... i'll walk. worst case scenario? i miss the flight and find a cab to take me back to the hotel.

So in my suit, i drag my 2 rolling bags for a walk along the gridlocked streets of L.A. for the next 2 hours i'm walking with hundreds of other people. We've taken over the streets. Wheels on people's rolling bags are busting from the stress of being drug through the potholed ridden streets of L.A. I finally get to LAX around 645, a hot, sweaty, disgusting mess.

As you got closer to LAX, people were also walking out of the airport to go home. People were stealing the Smart Cartes to drag their luggage out. It was an insanely chaotic scene. Travelers arriving/leaving LAX colliding into each other in huge masses with luggage everywhere. People were hot, mad, and just plain grumpy.

I finally got to check in and found out the flight was delayed to 7:30 and I had just made it under the wire.

I check my bag, go through security (which was no different than normal security), get on my flight, and proceed to clean the first class lounge out of Heineken over the next 4 hours. Got home at just after 3am.

    CSB.
