This is really going to change the game in my opinion. According to SportVu data --- of Dwight Howard's 26 rebounds, 21 were deemed uncontested, meaning no other player was near them . Heres the link: http://stats.nba.com/playerTrackingSpeed.html?pageNo=1&rowsPerPage=25

Granted teams like the Rockets already have this data. But its pretty cool that the NBA is posting it. Teams will be using it to scout players and other team. Im sure it will be used during contract negotiations, etc
Much, MUCH funnier version of that stat: League leader in uncontested rebounds: League leader in contested rebounds: In my head, all the contests on Asik's boards are all Dwight. Anyways, this database is useless 1-2 games in but I will be following it intently from December 1st onward.
I would rather we keep the chat here to keep the idiots out of it and turning this thread into just a random who should start thread.
methinks he commands respect. And people down low know that is hard to get a rebound from him so they let him be.
At first glance the answer seems simple. CHA was focused of stopping the fast break and only contested the offensive rebounds. For instance Asik had 5 offensive rebounds and 9 defensive rebounds. 5 of Asik's rebounds were contested and nine were uncontested.
It says Dragic has covered the most ground at 3 miles. If we assume that's going to be the high average for a game, i wonder if teams adjust their conditioning accordingly, or if they just keep doing the same things. Also, i wonder how much running they were doing before they had this kind of data.
The defensive impact stat looks pretty limited. But at least it is better than the previous almost no information at all.
They don't have a team filter, which is a bit annoying. Trying to figure out how to extract the data into a local db for easier manipulation, but they don't make that easy. Anyone able to do that?
Other players give up when they know the ball is in Dwight's range. Not only is it futile, sometimes it's hazardous to contest rebounds with guys like him. If you play pickup ball, you understand this well.
